Rich Sausage Hot Pot
Serving: 6
Ingredients
- 12 thin beef sausages
- 4-6 washed small baby potatoes, skin on
- 3 medium carrots, sliced
- 1 cup frozen peas
- 1 x 400g can condensed tomato soup
- 1 x 40g sachet french onion soup mix, dry
- 1T Worcestershire sauce
- 1/2 cup warm water
Instructions
- Cut each baby potato into 6 pieces, keeping them small ensures they cook through tender
- Add potato to slow cooker along with carrot slices and peas
- Cut each sausage into quarters and add to slow cooker
- Combine soups and sauce and pour over the sausages and vegetables
- Gently mix to combine then leave to cook for 2hrs on high then 4hrs low (equivalent to 6hrs on auto setting)
- You could also cook it on low for approx 7-8hrs if you prefer longer cooking time
- We served ours with steamed broccoli
- Cooked in a 6L slow cooker

I love this!!!!! Instead of putting the potatoes in the slow cooker, I mashed them and served the casserole over the top. Kids love it, such a cheap, easy recipe. Thanks Pauline.
Very tasty. Added a little more water during the cooking and only used 8 sausages. 4?
We had this recipe tonight and loved it and leftovers for a couple of lunches. I did not have soup so I replaced with tomato paste and added a bit more water, ended up nice and thick. Hubby loved it.
I made this with chicken sausages a couple of nights ago, was so delicious!
When you say 1T of worcester sauce do you mean tsp or tbl spoon
Capital T is tablespoon, small t is teaspoon
I used thin pork sausages instead of beef. Also replaced tomato soup with cream of chicken soup. The french onion soup mix made it a little salty for us, so will leave out next time. Loved it.
Was absolutely delicious. Will definitely be making again. Good food for a cold night.
I just ate this for dinner tonight, so delicious! I threw some crushed garlic and a red chilli in too. I also didnt put potatoes in, i cooked separately and mashed and put the sausages on top!
I cannot have the French onion soup mix, what could I replace this with
Made this last night ,I also mashed the potatoes to have on the side .Just beautiful ?
Easy to make, economical and delicious 🙂
The whole family loved this will definitely be one added to the list I may even add beans to the next one added corn to this one. They were even loving it for leftovers today.
This was so delicious my whole family loved it. Will definitely be making it again soon and it is so economical!
Made this today, loved it! Didn’t have tomato soup so used a can of tomatoes instead as well as some tomato passata and I also added some sweet potato. So yummy!
Excellent Dish, I also added onion and Garlic
Tried this recipe yesterday and loved it ??
What size slow cooker please
5L or larger

Oh my god i made the sausage hot pot everyone loved it will be making it again i served it with rice
I made this last week. So good and very economical!
Made this today, it was delicious. Will definitely be making this again.
Do you cut the sausages raw or cook the, first?
Either is fine Kylie, but I did cut them raw
Loved this. Was so easy and tastes delish. I used peas and corn as that’s what I had and cut the snags in smaller pieces (6 instead of 4) for the littlies
Made this for my family last night. Mum and sad loved it-the sausages were really tender and no fatty taste. My dad ate 2 serves and mum wants the recipe to make when I leave. Even the 3 year old was a fan!
Made this for first time tonight,…. a bit time-poor so par boiled carrots & added extra veggies (cauli & broccoli pces to par boiling), then added chopped halved green beans (on special) To sausages in insert, and the piece de resistance to meal, add a good dollop of sweet chilli sauce. Served w mash. Delicious
Made this tonight is was an easy recipe and family loved it i didnt add the water but did add a can of diced tomatoes instead sauce was thick and baked some fresh bread to mop up the sauce.
Very yummy,. Did 8 thick beef sausages, instead of thin and added frozen beans as well. Will make again
Made this tonight and we all enjoyed it ?
My fussy kids ate it which is always a win and simple to prep
This is really delicious and this is the second time i have made this and i added a onion and some fresh beans
Super easy and delicious
Super easy. Husband went back for seconds
Absolutely yummy highly recommended will definitely be making this regularly
I made this last night and I must say the flavour was amazing! I was disappointed in the sausages having never done sausages in the sc before I really didn’t like the texture much. I even browned them first as I was a little worried. Will definitely make again though either with diced beef or chicken pieces etc. I left out the peas and added a tin of 4 beans mix as well as a tin of crushed tomatoes and some diced sweet potato. Thanks for the great recipe!
Quick, easy and delicious. A must try? Will definitely be a regular. ??
This is super easy and was enjoyed by all the family . It freezes and reheats well.
We had this last night. Was so good. All 6 children emptied their plates and Miss 7 ate what was left for breakfast.
I doubled the recipe, left out the peas and had beans on the side.
Is the French onion soup satchel added with the 1/2 cup of warm water, or made up with the usual 1L of boiling water and added in addition to the 1/2 cup warm water?
I just sprinkle it into the pot dry but you can mix it with the 1/2 cup if you like. NOT any extra water needed
I love this dish. This is a $ saving meal but full of that old fashion slow cooker flavour you would enjoy being cooked by your grandmother when you were a kid and so EASY to get ready. Six stars for this.
I made this for Dinner last night, both Hubby and I loved it, I added Onion and Broccoli, next time I’ll add Button Mushrooms….good wholesome meal that all the family will enjoy…
Really enjoyed nice hearty meal with steamed broccoli son reckons it is one of his favourites next to mee Goreng will def be making again
Made this a few times. Partner loves it. And it freezes well for his lunches
Made this tonight and enjoyed by all! Easy to make which is always great. I did add a tablespoon of curry powder as well for a little kick. Didn’t have peas on their own so put in a cup of peas, corn, and capsicum mix. Cooked 7 hours on low
Tried this and a great hit with the family. Yum .
So easy
This was devoured by my hungry lot with a rating of 5*. It was really tasty and I even liked it despite not being keen on sausages. Definitely one to make again.
I want to make this but I’m just wondering if anyone has added a beef stock cube to it?
I was wanting to add 1x continental beef stock pot to it, or would that not taste very nice added ? Help
That would be no trouble to add it 🙂 It may get a little lost taste wise in everything else but no harm trying 🙂
Love this recipe. So easy to put together and so delicious! Only thing extra I added was a chopped onion.
Hi. I Made this my myself last week and it tasted amazzzzing!!!!
Used Lincolnshire pork sausages & halved the recipe. So tasty plus leftovers for lunches.
This has become a regular in our house, so nice and super quick. I’d say it’s closer to feeding 4 not 6 though. I swap the sausages for Coles Chevaps for a lower calorie option and chop them into 5, they end up like meatballs
So I made this for the 1st time tonight, followed the recipe exactly, and OMG sooo good!!!. We had buttered toast on the side. This is such a yummo dish. Will be making it again for sure.
Thankyou for the recipe Paulene
can it be put on high for less time please?
Yes that would reduce cooking time 🙂
Omg seriously this is the best recipe ever, so delicious and on a cold winter night it’s perfect to warm you up, this recipe won’t dispoint you,
Excellent!! Even my wife who hates sausages loved it.
Made this again last night and it was soooo good ?. It’s the 2nd time making it, following the directions exactly, and it was a huge hit!. We have leftovers tonight so I may serve it with some mash.
I love this and so does everyone else in the family, i always boil the sausages first to remove the fat and the skins. Keeping this a regular for sure. Just a suggestion: can people start putting the size of the slow cooker they use when submitting recipes, sometimes the guess doesn’t work that well.
In our books we always list slow cooker size since book number 2 (when we began doing so) right up to number 6 🙂
This is soooo easy to make and really delicious! Absolutely perfect for a cold winter’s night. Kids and husband also loved it!
Just wondering could I replace the can of tomato soup for a can of diced tomatoes
You could do Janine, it would just be a less creamy consistency in the end sauce/gravy
Such a easy hearty family meal!! Will definitely be on high rotation at our house ?
OMG yum. Hubby gave it a 9 out of 10 and has asked for it again using chops or steak.
Will definitely be a regular in this house
This is really yummy. A lovely hearty meal served by itself or with some nice crusty bread
I made this for the 1st time for dinner tonight!!! It reminds me sooo much of Tomato Sausage Casserole that I usually cook, very similar!!! I really enjoyed it with some bread to mop up the sauce ? it’s delicious ? thanx Paulene for another great sausage recipe ?????
I do everything the same except for substituting the sausages for about 800g diced chuck steak as my husband didn’t like it with sausages. Always turns out perfectly!
Budget friendly, easy & so tasty. Will definitely cook again. Thank you Paulene!
I live alone and hate cooking everyday so freeze stuff. I have made many variations with sausages but they always lacked something…UNTIL I came across THIS!!!
It’s AWESOME and have cooked it many many times now! Thank you ???
Love this one, only thing I do differently is add more vegetables or different ones depending on what I have.
I made this with chipolatas instead, but this was delicious!!
I made this dish for the first time last night and it was delicious. I’ve enjoyed reading the other reviews which had great suggestions for substitutes so next time I make it, I’m going to try cream of chicken soup mix instead of French onion which will hopefully reduce the salty taste. I’m vision impaired and found it super easy to make. I submitted a photo of my finished product on the facebook page as well with a little help from a friend. ?
We loved it, make this again.
Had visitors when this should have been coming out of the Slow Cooker so maybe the gravy was a little less than intended will differently be making this again. I served this with rice but would maybe try mashed potato next time.
We will have the left overs tonight on toast. YUM
Could i use cocktail franks instead? i could remove the skin – i have them in my freezer with no plans for them.
I guess you could Calina 🙂 Maybe add them a little later though since they are already cooked
Yum yum yum!!!!! Made as per recipe and used beef chipolatas.
made this with buffalo sausages, … goodness meee yarm
Love this meal,? I’m making this tomorrow night for mothers day dinner. I’ll be using frankfurts chopped and no skin and i love using tin potatoes but everything else as recipe. This way i cook on low for around 3hrs so its also a go to if i run out of time ?
I’ve made this a few times now and every time I make it it’s amazing!
Cheap to make, makes a lot and is delicious!
I served mine with mash and some hot buttered dinner rolls to mop up the sauce after it’s delicious and also makes the house smell yummy all day
Only thing I did different was I added a continental beef stock pot and cooked for 7.5 hours on low
My kids loved it too ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I cooked this for dinner last night and it was absolutely amazing
I cooked this for dinner last night it was absolutely delicious
Definitely making this one again.
Such a great tasty easy meal.
I added extra veggies and it turned out great.
Dinner tonight with mash
Yummmmmmmmm
Fresh sesame rolls on the side
100% winner in my household. Swapped out peas for corn as I had no peas. Nothing beats a warm hearty bowl of snag hot pot
I did this one yesterday. So looking forward to leftovers for lunch today. So quick, easy and perfect for a cold day. Followed the recipe.
Made this the other night. I also added some butternut pumpkin and zucchini plus some salt and pepper. Was a hit fussy son ate a little and granddaughter like it as well.
Made this today really yum but I’d change the potatoes to kumara (sweet potato) or take out the potatoes and have mashed potatoes instead just to soak up the sauce.
Had this last night for dinner and my goodness is was so delicious! Served with a mix of potato, sweet potato and pumpkin mash! Kids absolutely loved it, even my 6 month old enjoyed what she could eat! Definitely making this one a regular!!
I love this in my slow cooker, any ideas how I would cook it in a camp oven?
Lisa we actually take this one camping. I cook it in the slow cooker as usual, freeze it in a large tub (which doubles then as ice for the esky) … then we reheat it over the fire in the cast iron camp oven for an easy camp dinner with fresh bread rolls 🙂
So I’ve just put this on and so excited but after reading comments, I’m questioning if the French onion soup mix was supposed to be added the way I added it…
So I put the soup, French onion soup mix (dry), Worcestershire sauce and water into a big bowl, mixed it all together than poured over the sausages and veggies… correct?
That’s exactly right as you have it Tara 🙂
Soooo easy. Everything in the slow cooker and a warming hearty meal that tasted great. Even my teenager who is a pain went back for seconds. This will definitely make it into dinner rotation.
I make this for my kids in their thermos. They love having a warm meal for lunch when it’s winter.
We loved this when we made it and put some small portions in the freezer and it worked so well. Tastes delicious! We edited a couple of things to suit our tastes but it was awesome. Thank you for sharing this recipe
Very tasty, even the kids had a good go at it even though they sent keen on trying new things
Just checking cause I’m unsure, in the recipe it mentions – 1T Worcestershire sauce, presume that’s tablespoon and not teaspoon? Thank you ?
Hi Lisa, Yes T=tablespoon and t=teaspoon 🙂
I made this the other night and I added 3 tbsp of Green’s gravy mixed with 3/4 cup of water & 1 tbsp minced garlic to the mixture about halfway through and it was so good. I am definitely going to try it with diced chuck steak next time.
This was so yummy – will definitely be making it again. I followed the recipe and the only change I made was I part cooked the sausages (personal preference as I like that texture better) and I cooked on low for 7 hours. Yum – thank you for a new found easy, cheap and delicious favourite!
So easy & so delicious. Used corn & peas as I didn’t have peas by themselves. Will definitely cook again.
This is one of our favourite slow cooker meals ever. We always serve ours over spiral pasta. Leftovers also taste great the next day. Wonderful recipe – thank you!
Absolutley epic
hahah now that’s some great feedback Ricky!! Love it!
Omg it was amazing and full of flavour everyone in the house enjoyed even the fussy eaters
Definitely will be making again
This is a real winner.
I used 6 sausages and added a little garlic then some extra water near the end.
A very tasty dish that is so easy to put together ❤️
This will be a regular.
This was a great hit with everyone and was so good even after being on for such a long time (10hrs+).
Will definitely be making this again.
Beautiful recipe. So tasty and delicious, easy and budget friendly as well.
so I cannot find the French onion soup mix….what can I replace it with please??
You could make your own HERE 🙂
This is absolutely beautiful. Our family loves it. It’s a keeper forever. So economical and delicious. Thanks Paulene. You are amazing!
An absolute favourite in our house. So easy on the budget. I throw in whatever veggies need to be used up from my fridge.
This is now a family fave in our house. It’s a great one to put on in the morning and let it cook all day.
When putting sausages in the slow is it raw or cooked sausages??
I always put mine in raw, it’s the slow cooker that will cook them
I also like to chop mine into bite size pieces with kitchen scissors prior to adding them 🙂
Wow Made this again tonight. Eve added the capsicum & the teasp of mixed herbs like Jenny did. Amazing so yummy. So moorish. Thank you ?
made this tonight was a hit
made this for the man, he loved it very easy and sinple 🙂
we really enjoyed the flavour of this recipe.I only had 8 sausages so added extra veggies.will make again
Made this recently with chicken snags and it was really good!
First recipe I’ve tried without a packet mix. Loved it. Easy to prep. A little bit salty, so will use the salt reduced french onion soup mix and/or condensed soup next time around. Adult son loved it and it’s going on our list of recipes to have again.
I made this yesterday. Didn’t have the french onion soup so chopped up an onion instead. Also left out potatoes and did mash with. Easy and simple and loved by the whole family. Definitely make again.
Attempted this recipe today and it was a huge hit. So easy to prepare and I chose to brown my sausages first. The flavours were beautiful
Went down well with the meat eaters in the house. Will make again 🙂
Hi Pauline…can this recipe be doubled? I can’t see how many servings. We are a family of 4 adults and three littlies. Would this recipe feed this many or should I double?
Hi Marcia
This one serves 6 .. it’s a full sized slow cooker full so quite hearty…serve it with some crusty bread as well and I’m confident you’d fill your family. Because this already fills a 6L you couldn’t double it but you can bulk up the veg a bit to whatever fits in and just add a little time if you do so 🙂
Loved this meal on a cold day … will make it again as it is very easy and delicious.
So good for a hearty dinner.
I use tomato passata instead of tomato soup as I just never buy tomato soup! Turns out really good every time!
Thanks Rachel! 🙂
I’ve made this before and will definitely make again. Good hearty food with plenty of sauce to mop up with bread.
This time I added 1 tablespoon of curry powder, corn kernels and some fresh parsley.
I haven’t made this yet but I have never used sausages in the slow cooker so just wondering if the skin comes off the sausages when the cook if you cook from raw ? Thanks in advance
I personally don’t ever find sausage skins in the dish and I never pre cook mine
I just snip them into bite sized pieces with scissors from raw and cook them that way 🙂
Hubby & I absolutely love this recipe, have cooked it many times, on the Menu again tonight, making it with Chicken Chipolato Sausages, so leaving them whole, also added Garlic, Mixed Herbs and Chilli Flakes 😋
Another great recipe on repeat. I also sometimes add a can of lentils or a can of cannellini beans.
Great suggestion Richard – love that!
Yum!!! I used thin pork sausages, did not add the warm water and put in 2 x 125g cans of chick peas instead of potatoes ( was going to serve with mashed potato but changed my mind). Served with sweet potato and steamed baby beans. Also used the salt reduced French Onion soup.
New favourite. I made it the night before and just put it on low in the morning while I was at work. Sooo tasty. I added 4 bean mix and mushrooms and cut the sausages into about 6 pieces. Next time I might add some bacon and chorizo
This recipe is a great one to stretch your sausages. With the vegie ingredients and the tasty gravy you can easily serve with mash and a green and everyone feels as though they’ve had a nice meal.
I halved recipe and we two had enough for two meals served with mash and veg.
A great recipe to stretch the budget.
I put this on the day of my husband’s soccer breakup party knowing I wouldn’t feel like cooking when we got home, but he would NEED a feeling meal. This fit the bill. I am not a huge fan of everything in the one pot but this was good. Thank you for the recipe.
Easy peasy to throw together! very tasty and filling.. Was worried the condensed tomato soup would overide flavour but certainly doesn’t! very economical dish.
Used 8 thick sausages in place of 12 thin and was great.
Definitely make again as an easy weeknight dinner. Cooked on low for 7.5 hours.
