  • Yields: 4 Servings

500 Gm cubed beef

2 sliced brown onions

3 level tablespoons curry powder

1/4 tspn cloves

1 Apple cored and diced

1 banana sliced

2 cups hot water

1 carrot diced

2 tablespoons chutney

Handful of sultanas

1Mix curry powder with water

2Add all ingredients to slow cooker and stir thoroughly

3Cook on high for 3 hours then turn to low

4Cook time approx 5 hours or until meat is tender

6Sultanas can be omitted

7Any chutney can be used, but a fruit chutney was used in this dish

8There is no definite taste of banana in this dish, the banana is simply used as a sweetener

9Add or reduce curry powder to suit individual personal taste

10Serve with boiled rice, yoghurt and Poppadoms

11It can be cooked with beef, chicken, lamb or sausages.

12If using sausages, sear the meat first, chop into 1" lengths before adding to the slow cooker

13This hearty winter recipe has been passed down from Mother to daughter, to granddaughter and has been a great family favourite over the years :)

This was really tasty, my son loved it! I would maybe add some more veggies next time. I served with fried rice.

This was really nice. I added a sweet potato and zucchini to it also. With brown rice and some papadums – as that makes it fun for the kids. I did not add the chutney, however i chucked in a tablespoon of brown sugar in its place.

The apple and banana dissolve into the sauce, don’t be afraid of it!!

I used a topside roast that I diced myself. Will definitely make it again!!

I don’t like cooked apples or sultanas – is there anything I can substitute for these two please.

I felt too much curry powder for us, I added most of a tin of coconut milk to it. I also added, a stalk of celery, a few mushrooms, half a tin corn, some capsicum, and some sweet potato. Was very yum. Served with brown rice, and mashed potato.
