Fast and easy to cook! Nice and easy on the budget too! This saucy slow cooked BBQ chicken will be a hit with the whole family :)
4 hrs 15 mins
1kg chicken pieces of your choice
1 large onion, sliced
1/2 tsp smoked paprika
1 heaped tsp minced garlic
1 cup BBQ sauce (no sugar version as I used or regular if you prefer)
1Place raw chicken directly into slow cooker
2Top with sliced onion
3Combine all other ingredients and pour over chicken
4Cook on LOW for 4hrs
1I turned them twice during cooking to get a lovely rich colour all over
2To stop it being too watery: As I lift the lid I make sure I direct the run off of water under the lid into the sink instead of back in the cooking bowl.
3Other methods to thicken your dish are here >> How to thicken your slow cooker dish
4Mine did not need any flour for thickening and the end result was a lovely syrupy sauce
5Cooked in a 7L Breville slow cooker

Yes but I’d drop time by an hour if using breast as it tends to be more dry 🙂

Hi this looks so nice but can you use chicken breast instead

You can yes if you want it will lesson the liquid. I just thicken it if it needs it but it doesn’t always need it 🙂

Can you use the tea towel trick to stop the sauce becoming too watery?

This was so so easy and absolutely delicious . I did have to stir it a couple of times (maybe every hour) as it was starting to burn around the SC bowl. I’m not sure if the Sunbeam Secret Chef cooks hot on low but I don’t think it’s one that you could put on and go out for the 4 hours. That aside…….try it people, you will love it! I served it with rice and veggies, next time I’ll do it over mashed potato because I think it will go perfect.

Thanks, Paulene 🙂
No I cooked the rice separate 🙂
It’s not done with the chicken recipe
The rice just goes in with the chicken and cooks fine?

Made this today! I loved it and so easy! Everyone ate without speaking and polished off everything on their plate, even my daughter (17) which is a fussy eater and watches her weight! I take that as they loved it! Highly recommend it!
