Prep Time 15 mins
Cook Time 4 hrs
Total Time 4 hrs 15 mins

Ingredients

  • 1kg chicken pieces of your choice
  • 1 large onion, sliced
  • 1/2 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1 heaped tsp minced garlic
  • 1 cup BBQ sauce (no sugar version as I used or regular if you prefer)

Instructions

  • Place raw chicken directly into slow cooker
  • Top with sliced onion
  • Combine all other ingredients and pour over chicken
  • Cook on LOW for 4hrs

Notes

  • I turned them twice during cooking to get a lovely rich colour all over
  • To stop it being too watery: As I lift the lid I make sure I direct the run off of water under the lid into the sink instead of back in the cooking bowl.
  • Other methods to thicken your dish are here >> How to thicken your slow cooker dish
  • Mine did not need any flour for thickening and the end result was a lovely syrupy sauce
  • Cooked in a 7L Breville slow cooker

  1. Made this today! I loved it and so easy! Everyone ate without speaking and polished off everything on their plate, even my daughter (17) which is a fussy eater and watches her weight! I take that as they loved it! Highly recommend it!

  2. This was so so easy and absolutely delicious . I did have to stir it a couple of times (maybe every hour) as it was starting to burn around the SC bowl. I’m not sure if the Sunbeam Secret Chef cooks hot on low but I don’t think it’s one that you could put on and go out for the 4 hours. That aside…….try it people, you will love it! I served it with rice and veggies, next time I’ll do it over mashed potato because I think it will go perfect.

  3. Tried this for the first time tonight, turned out lovely, empty plates all around, it’ll defo be a regular tea in this house

  4. I tried the budget bbq chicken in the slow cooker today ✨️ It’s an absolutely winner for my household and super affordable. I had all the stuff already in my fridge/cupboards already πŸ’–

  5. I cooked this tonight, shredded it and served it on a sandwich with coleslaw and it was absolutely delicious. The only thing I did different was I used sweet paprika because I didn’t have smoky paprika. I’ll definitely be making it again.

  6. Tried this last night – everyone loved it & told me I need to make more of it.

So easy – I did 2 hrs low & 2 hrs high as I put it on a bit too late – but turned out beautifully
