Meatballs and Sauce
Created and made from scratch by my 7-year old son Michael who has developed a love for cooking, and a passion for flavours.
Serving: 4
Ingredients
Meatballs
- 600g pork or beef mince
- 1 egg
- 1 tsp thyme
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp smoked paprika
Sauce
- 1 x 500g jar passata
- 1/2 capsicum (diced)
- 2 tomatoes (diced)
- 1 onion (diced)
- 3 cloves of garlic (crushed)
- 3 large leaves silver beet or spinach (shredded)
- 1 oxo cube and 1/4C water to dissolve
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp oregano
- 1 tsp thyme
- 1 tsp chives
- 2 bay leaves
Instructions
- 1. Mix all the ingredients for the meatballs together, and use your hands to form the mixture into balls as big or small as you wish. Pop into the slow cooker.
- 2. Mix all the ingredients for the sauce together in a bowl and pour into the slow cooker. Gently mix together with the meatballs so they don't break apart.
- 3. Cook on low for 4-5 hours, or high for 2-3 hours. Remember to remove the bay leaves once cooked!
- 4. Serve on pasta or rice, with a sprinkle of whatever cheese you fancy. We also made a nice salad with veges from our garden to accompany the dish.
