Lush Roast Beef and Gravy
Serving: 6
Ingredients
- Roast Beef 1-2kg
- 1 onion, diced
- 2 heaped tablespoons of tomato paste
- 250g of fruit chutney (I love Rosella brand)
- 2 tablespoons gravy powder (dry)
Instructions
- Add onion to slow cooker bowl and sit the beef on top
- Combine other 3 ingredients and spread this mix over the beef
- Cook on low for approx 6hrs for 1kg piece, 8hrs for 2kg piece or until cooked through to your preference
- Remove roast beef and allow to rest while you thicken the sauce
- Reduce the cooking liquids/gravy on searing setting of your slow cooker or over stovetop for approx 5mins to thicken
- Slice your roast beef (I get best results with electric knife if you have one) then serve with the lush rich gravy generously poured over your beef and your vegetables of choice
Notes
- I slow cook my roast vegetables using the 'Roast Vegetable' recipe of mine on this website

Look forward to hearing what you think Ken π
Absolutely delicious. The gravy is the best. A fantastic, easy family meal.
I made this today and it turned out so delicious. ????. Absoultey loved it. Would recommend to anyone. I will be making this one again.
Thank you so much for sharing a truly wonderful recipe.
Was extremely delicious and easy to make. Will make it again for sure.
Hi Pauline, how much liquid do you add? Looking forward to trying out this recipe.
No liquid needed π It will release lots of it’s own – you don’t want to stew it
Thank you for a very simple but absolutely delicious recipe. ???
No fruit chutney. Replacement,?
How about a tomato relish π
Both hubby and I really enjoyed it. Makes a lot of gravy!! I will definitely be making this again.
Was a winner with the hubby & the kids. Definitely will be making again. Thank you.
This is so delicious!
I made this using 1.3 kg bolar blade roast and cooked for 6 hours on low.
I didn’t have tomato paste, but I had a bottle of pizza sauce so I used that instead.
Also added 1 tsp English mustard and mixed it all together.
Also put large veggie peices around the outside (potato, carrot, sweet potato) cos I couldn’t be bothered cooking seperate veggies. Just zapped some peas and beans in m’wave later.
While the meat was resting, I put gravy in a saucepan and let it reduce to thicken.
The gravy was amazing, hubby loved it!
Made this exactly as the recipe. This is absolutely delicious. The meat melted in our mouths and the sauce is amazing. This will be a regular at our house. I served it with baked potato, baked pumpkin and steamed spinach (with garlic and onion).
I canβt stop making this. My kids love it. Guests love it. Itβs sooooo delicious. And super easy!
I used a BBC Good Food chutney recipe and use a jar every time I make this.
HI ALL
im going to try recipe as it sounds really nice . one question do you season the beef with salt and pepper first as i normally would ?
If that’s what you usually do Keith you certainly still can π
I’d just consider the fact though that the gravy powder will also have salt so you wouldn’t want to season with too much salt or the two together could be too much π
This was such a hit tonight. Made it exactly as recipe said. Absolutely mouth watering. 13 yo son smashed it and hubby loved it. Soooo much gravy.
Oh My Goodness, we love this recipe. I’ve now used it on Beef, Chicken, Lamb and Venison and every time we make it, everyone loves it!! It’s definitely a favourite in our house
I’ve never yet tried it with the other meats, that’s GREAT to know Lauren π π
I cooked this for my son-in-law and cooked it for an extra hour as I didnβt think it was soft enough. However, that was probably unnecessary as it does stay firm and the knife just glides through it so easily. As I was taking it to his place I carved the whole 1 kg piece and covered each layer with the sauce to keep it moist for him to reheat when needed. Later that night the expected phone call came to let me know how much he enjoyed his meal, I sent potato casserole, roast pumpkin and carrot and steamed beans to go with the meat.
This has become my husbandβs favourite roast beef! I love how easy it is to prepare, it gets made regularly. Iβm thinking of trying it with diced beef to serve over mash next time
Served this last night with mashed potato, steamed cauliflower, beans & peas. Omg so delicious we almost licked the slow cooker bowl clean ?
It was delicious everyone LOVE IT even the almost 3yr old Granddaughter
And I have never had fruit chutney before and I even liked it
10 / 10
This was absolutely divine tender and juicy. Everyone loved it I will definitely make it again
My fave. I make this at least once a fortnight and I always use brisket. Sometimes Iβll switch it up and use a rolled roast beef ???

I use the tea towel trick for this dish too ???

Sure, you could do that too Colleen π

Thank you so much for sharing this delicious recipe !
Aww I love this feedback!! Thanks Jacinta π π
Amazing Taste! I made this with diced beef and tomato puree instead of paste. Also added about a half cup of water with a block of beef stock, Works very well. Served over fried rice and a salad. Lovely! My family complimented the creator of this divine recipe! Next time I will use diced pork and then roast beef and then…. Thank you very much , Paulene!
Thank you for this delicious roast beef recipe π Very easy and quick to prepare. Served with Yorkshire Pudding, Roast Veges, Broccoli and the delicious gravy. Will definitely be making again.
Very tasty, and so easy to do!
Good? “I wanted to stick my head into the bowl and lick it clean” level good!!!!!
I had to avoid gravy powder (gluten) but added a little garlic powder and paprika, thickening wit cornflour in the last half hour.
so π yum
Beef was beautifully tender. Sauce/gravy was slurp-worthy.
will be doing again
