These are the most tastiest, irresistible, mild curried sausages that the whole family will love ? Slow cooked comfort food at it's best!
Serving: 4
Ingredients
- 8 thin beef bbq sausages
- 3 cups of water
- 1 chicken stock cube (crumbled)
- Diced vegies of your choice (I used 3 med potatoes, 2 med carrots & added half a pkt of frozen baby peas in the last hr)
- 1 diced onion
- 2 green apples peeled, cored & diced
- A good dash of mixed herbs
- 2 tsps of curry powder (or more if you like it hot)
- Salt and pepper
Instructions
- Boil sausages (cover with water and add about 1/4 cup of brown vinegar), drain, remove skins & cut into bite sized pieces.
- Combine all ingredients into your slow cooker (except frozen peas)
- Cook on low for 5-6 hrs or until the potatoes are cooked (they take the longest)
- Thicken at the end with 1/4 cup of water mixed with 2 tblsps of cornflour, then add to curried sausages, mix through, leave lid off until it thickens to your liking
- Serve & enjoy ?

Family favorite in our house, becoming a weekly ritual to cook this recipe and every time it doesn’t disappoint! Love love love, thankyou so much to the creator ?
Why do you add brown vinegar when boiling the sausages
Hi Glenda ??♀️ the brown vinegar helps absorb the fat from the sausages but u don’t have to use brown vinegar that’s how my mum always did it n I’ve just followed in her footsteps lol ?
Hi, do you have to use the green apples? I have an aversion to cooked apples.
What about a handful of sultanas for a similar sweet hit 🙂
Do you put the stock cube in with the boiling sausages or crumble in the slow cooker.? Thanks
I’d crumble it into the slow cooker
Lovely recipe! My go to when trying to use up cooked sausages after a bbq.
Can you cook sausages first fry them in frying pan before putting in slow cooker
You could, though you don’t need to double cook them Patricia 🙂
Yum!! I made these for dinner tonight, and I will definitely be making it again! I didn’t pre-cook the sausages (I used chipolatas) and the gravy didn’t thicken quite as much as I would have liked, but still delicious. Next time I’ll add the cornflour before the peas I think.
We use Dutch curry and rice soup packet mix to thicken at the end. Just mix with a dash of water to make a paste then add it to the curry
Yes this is a tasty recipe. Some of my tweaks include one or more of the following: using frozen peas and corn; adding a can of diced tomatoes; adding a can of lentils; adding a tablespoon of Worcestershire sauce; adding half cup rice and two cups water for last three hours.
