Pork and Veal Pasta Sauce with Tomato & Basil
A pasta sauce that really packs a PUNCH of fresh flavour with pairings of semi dried tomatoes and basil pesto!
Serving: 5
Ingredients
- 500g tray of combined pork and veal mince
- 100g diced bacon
- 1 small onion, fine diced
- 2tsp minced garlic (2-3 cloves)
- 8 sun dried tomatoes halves, diced
- 1 heaped Tblsp basil pesto
- 1 tsp cracked black pepper
- 500g jar of your favourite pasta sauce (I like Tomato with Italian herb for this recipe)
To Serve
- 500g packet of Penne Rigate pasta, cooked
- Parmesan cheese
Instructions
- Combine all ingredients (except pasta & parmesan), into slow cooker and mix well
- Cook on low for 5hrs
- Serve on cooked pasta with a sprinkle of fresh grated Parmesan

I followed recipe . However I didn’t have sun dried tomatoes or basil pesto. I substituted them with a tomato paste with basil from a tube. Also chucked in a tin of lentils I needed to use. Very yummy. It was even better the next day when all the flavours had enriched the mince.

Can I put the pasta in to cook after 5 hours or is it best to cook pasta seperately?
Best to do separately only because to add pasta you need more liquid than this recipe has as it soaks it up significantly. More info HERE
