Granddad's Beef Stew and Dumplings.
A hearty tasty stew. Stew freezes well without the dumplings.
Serving: 6
Ingredients
- STEW
- 1.5 kg diced beef
- 2 large parsnips sliced
- 2 large swedes diced
- 2 large turnips diced
- 4 large carrots sliced
- 1 large onion chopped
- 2 cups beef stock
- DUMPLINGS
- 2 cups of self raising flour
- 3 tablespoons of butter
- 100 mls water
Instructions
STEW
- Place all the stew ingredients in a large slow cooker.
- Cook on low for 8 hours.
- Thicken gravy with a little cornflour if need before adding the dumplings.
DUMPLINGS
- Sort flour into a bowl.
- Rub in the butter.
- Add water to form a soft dough.
- Roll into golf ball sizes balls.
- Add to the stew for the last hour.
- Do not put a tea towel under the lid.
