Granddad's Beef Stew and Dumplings.
A hearty tasty stew. Stew freezes well without the dumplings.

Ingredients
STEW
1.5 kg diced beef
2 large parsnips sliced
2 large swedes diced
2 large turnips diced
4 large carrots sliced
1 large onion chopped
2 cups beef stock
DUMPLINGS
2 cups of self raising flour
3 tablespoons of butter
100 mls water
Instructions
STEW
Place all the stew ingredients in a large slow cooker.
Cook on low for 8 hours.
Thicken gravy with a little cornflour if need before adding the dumplings.
DUMPLINGS
Sort flour into a bowl.
Rub in the butter.
Add water to form a soft dough.
Roll into golf ball sizes balls.
Add to the stew for the last hour.
Do not put a tea towel under the lid.
