GreenLife DUO Searing Slow Cooker 5.6L

So those who know me, know that I own around 50 slow cookers.
Hardly surprising given my business is slow cooking right 😉
However what I do find surprising is that almost EVERY slow cooker I own besides about 3, are all silver and black 🙁
Why do slow cookers not come in more bright funky colours to really stand out in our kitchen!!

So imagine my excitement to see this pink pretty from GreenLife!!

And what’s even more exciting is that this isn’t the only colour!
While our international friends seem to have this cooker in TEN (!!) colour options …
I’m still pleased to find at least 3 options for us here in Australia being stocked in Myer.

Let’s explore the features of this pretty little unit!

Features:

  • 5.6L removable searing cooking bowl that is both stove AND oven safe (see more details below)
  • Healthy Ceramic Coating: Effortless cleanup that’s free of PFAS, PFOA, lead, and cadmium
  • Digital control panel (see more details below)
  • Glass lid for easing checking of your meal during cooking
  • Dishwasher safe bowl and lid for ease of cleaning
  • 3 cooking modes – LOW, MEDIUM AND HIGH
  • Keep warm cooking mode also (see more details below)
  • Delay start option (see more details below)
  • 240 watts
  • 24 month warranty in Australia and New Zealand

Let’s talk more about searing!

A searing cooking bowl allows you to start on the stove top if you wish to sear, brown or sauté any of your ingredients first.
No extra dishes, no flavour left behind in another pan
You can read all about the pros and cons of browning or not browning HERE in this informative article
Recommended stove top maximum temperatures as per the manual is up to 280°C for 15mins.

You can then lift that same cooking bowl off of the stovetop and into your slow cooker to begin slow cooking.

Then, if you want to, you can even move the same bowl to the oven at the end to brown or melt cheeses or such for the final stage of your delicious dinner!
Recommended maximum oven temperatures as per the manual is up to 180°C .
Note: the lid is NOT oven safe, only the bowl

A searing bowl is also very lightweight which makes it perfect for those with less strength or less mobility in their hands and arms!

Let’s talk now about the cooking settings!

This unit has an easy to use control panel. Simply select your setting and swing the dial.
And it lights up lovely and bright so not only can you see at a glance where your meal is up to, but you can also be assured you turned it on 😉

Unlike many cookers that only have High and Low, this unit offers a MEDIUM option also.
This can be a really handy option to tweak the cooking time to best suit your needs.

The Keep Warm option is great in that it will automatically switch to that after your elapsed cooking time is complete.
It can stay warm for up to 4hrs.
OR you can manually go straight to keep warm also. Great for using your slow cooker to keep already cooked food warm for a short time ready to serve etc.
As always, this should never be used to actually ‘cook’ food. Only to keep already cooked and hot food warmed.

I need to make special mention of the delay start cooking option.
While the setting does range from 30mins to 10hrs, the manual states that maximum delayed start for any meat product is 2hrs maximum.
Here at Slow Cooker Central we recommend NEVER delay starting any slow cooker meal with ingredients that can spoil for food safety risks.
It’s always best to start immediately and instead move to keep warm at the end of cooking time instead.

Cleaning Tips!

The removable cooking pot and lid are both dishwasher safe.

The outer unit should just be wiped over with a damp cloth to remove any spills but never washed or submerged in water.
