Serving: 6
Prep Time 15 minutes
Cook Time 5 hours
Total Time 5 hours 15 minutes

  • 1kg diced lamb (I had a butcher debone and dice a leg piece of lamb)
  • 1 large onion diced
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 3 tsp mild curry powder
  • 1/2 tsp minced ginger
  • 2 small green granny smith cooking apples, peeled, cored and diced
  • 1/2 cup beef stock liquid
  • 1/2 cup fruit chutney
  • Cornflour to thicken

  • Place all ingredients (except cornflour) into slow cooker
  • Cook on HIGH for 2hrs then LOW for 3hrs (which is the same as 5hrs on auto)
  • This dish would be ok cooked longer on just low also if you are not there to change it or wish it to cook all day
  • 1/2 hr prior to serving, mix 2-3 tbsp cornflour with 1 tbsp water to form a paste and stir through dish. Leave lid slightly ajar for that last half hour to thicken.
  • Serve with creamy mashed potato or rice and crusty bread rolls.

  1. A great family dinner. It is not too spicy for the kids to eat it. It has become one of our favourite dinners. I use lamb shoulder. I get the butcher to debone it and I dice the meat before adding to the slowcooker. The meat is meltingly tender. Highly recommend.

  2. Made this for dinner last night, delicious ! Thumbs up from all the family.
I didn’t have fruit chutney so used Green Tomato Relish. Turned out great. Thank you Paulene

  3. Amazing receipe!! So easy and full of flavour. Added extra curry for our tastebuds. Simply amazing will be making it again and many many more times after that.

  4. This is absolutely delish! Every plate was virtually licked clean! Thank you for the recipe – it was perfect for a Saturday nights tea – will definitely be making again very soon!

  5. My first time cooking lamb and your recipe was superb! Easy. Delicious. And an attractive dish to serve! My guests went for seconds! What more can I say?!!! Thank you for the great recipe.

  6. We tried this tonight and it was delish ! The sweetness from the apples and fruit chutney was a nice change from my usual curry dishes. I served it with mashed potatoes, steamed veg and some hot dinner rolls . I had five clean plates and a serve left over for a nice warm lunch tomorrow. Thank you for sharing

  7. This is one of my favourite things I’ve cooked so far! I haven’t ever had a sweet curry. It was delicious! I served with white rice and Pappadams . Will definitely make again.

  8. My hubby doesn’t like curry but I love it. Is it a real curry taste? Do you think a non-curry eater would like it? Thanks.

  9. Has become a regular family favourite! Especially great for winter-time!

I usually get a vegetable soup pack to chop up and pop in it to veg it up.

  10. Do you know what would happen if you added the cornflour in with all the other ingredients rather than adding it towards the end?

  11. Beautiful! So easy to make and really tasty. I made this with stewing pieces so I needed to cook it for a few more hours. Now a favourite.

  12. This was really good. Do you think it could be assembled raw and frozen for a freezer dump bag meal, to defrost overnight and throw in the slow cooker Ina weekday morning?

  13. Hi just wondering what curry powder fo you use.. i generally use KEENS?

And is this suitable for younger kids? Is it spicy?
    Ta ?

  14. OMG! This was fantastic!!! So yummy. Had some leftover so can’t wait for lunch tomorrow to have some more!!!

  15. Does the apple make a difference? I need to make dump bags (for hubby), and dont think i can rely on him to put the apple in on the day.

  16. I cut up a bone in lamb leg in small 1/2 inch cubes and times and a halved the ingredients as I had about 3 lbs lamb.after removing the bone. Very tasty and will be making this again. Not sure where all you are from using kilos and kangaroo but we are from the Seattle area in The US. Got your idea from the Yummly app. Thanks for the great dinner.

Very low on meat at present so decided to use the 3 sausages I had left plus a tin of cannolli beans in place of the lamb.
    Added mushrooms and zucchini also.
As previous times I have cooked this recipe it once again has not failed me with the lovely flavour.
Now I know I will be able to make it a non meat just substituting with beans.
    Thank you Paulene.

  18. My husband’s favourite, he’d have it every night if I let him. Always meets with a resounding “Yum!”

  19. Debbie Hancock

I have to admit i was cautious about this one as I’m not big on spicy food but the flavours are amazing i served with rice and it was lovely.

  20. We had this for dinner tonight. I used a 600gish lamb shoulder and had it on low for approx. 8 hours. It was perfection with mashed potato. I can’t wait to have the leftovers in a pie ?.

  21. Stop wondering and make it!!!! ? 5 stars again!! Its easy, tasty, delicious, and yummy! Great family friendly, 8 yr and 1 yr gobbled it down. Used forequarter lamb chops and also didn’t have the Apple on hand substited 1 can of lychee ?.
Used tripe amount of corn flour. Cooked on low nearly 7 hrs.

  22. Oh goodness, this was so good!!! I served it with rice and both of my kids devoured two helpings. They said I would definitely need to make this again. My husband, who generally does not like curry, polished his off, too. I loved the sweetness of this and the flavor blend is wonderful.

  23. Question – Has anyone tried this in Instant pot pressure cooker? What timing did you use? Was going to do this in slow cooker but then realized I had read time wrong.

  24. Such a tasty dish…Only change I made was I had no lamb, so used rump steak cut up…Whole family loved it…WINNER…!!!

  25. Hi Paulene
Can I use diced lamb back strap instead?
I have loads of this a need to use it.
Would the diced lamb back strap require different cooking time for this recipe at all ?? ??

  26. This was sooo good, partner, 2yr old and 9month old loved it also.
I did add peas corn potato and carrot to mild the sweetness and get some veg into the kiddies ?

  27. I made this for dinner last night a it was fabulous. Beautiful flavour profile and a winner with hubby and kids. Will be adding to my repertoire. I added potato and carrots to boost the veggie content, used lamb forequarter chops (I couldn’t get diced) and served with sweet potato mash. Yum yum yum

  28. Hi I’m just making this for dinner tonight and really looking forward to it. Just comfirming that 1/2 cup of beef stock is the only/ enough liquid?

  29. I made this with leftover lamb from a roast day before, it was really easy to make and delicious, will definitely make again ??

  30. My very fussy family loved this. We used a whole leg of lamb and pulled it apart when it was cooked. The leftovers reheated the next day were even tastier. Thank you from NSW Australia x

  31. Yumbo! I used a couple of discounted chops (fat removed) and some fruit chutney I found in the back of the fridge. There’s only two of us so I divided the ingredients into thirds and used my 1.5l slow cooker.

  32. Brooke Harbour

I made this tonight for dinner. WOW so tasty. This will definitely be on the menu regularly! YUM!! Thank you xx

  33. Chris Cherry ? everyone calls me Nanna which I love ❤️..l

An amazing recipe, beautiful, not to sweet, lamb melts in your mouth, thanks again Paulene for all you do for us. Will definitely be on my rotation. Xxoo

This is definitely a favourite in our house! I used about 1.5kg lamb chops and added extra fruit chutney. Everything else was left the same. We served it over Parmesan potato mash. Hubby and both kids ask for this recipe all the time! ?

  35. I made this last week, added a full jar of the chutney, and extra apple, another tsp on curry power and some more sultanas, but this is our taste and it was just lovely, will def make again.

  36. Made this but didn’t have fruit chutney, I added jalapeño relish. It was the best. Will make it again for sure

  37. Lorraine Baker

Made it a little too spicy (didn’t carefully measure the teaspoons of curry powder ??‍♀️) for my liking, but was still totally delectable. I halved the meat amount, as there’s just me, so it made dinner today, and 2 more serves. Perfect. Looking forward to when I can eat it again. And will definitely make for family next time we get together.

  38. We had this about 5-6 weeks ago. I was so sceptical, thinking it would be way too sweet, but everyone LOVED it!!! I’m now making it again next week

  39. Melissa Williams

Nom nom nom. Don’t question it , just do it, it’s my go to lamb dish . Even someone who dose not like lamb or curry enjoyed it

  40. Rebecca Sutton

This is the ultimate comfort food! My nan used to make similar to this and the recipe was lost over the years. Childhood memories, and a family of lamb haters that demolished it with vigor lol

  41. I am not a person who eats curries or anything with heat but my god this is amazing so full of flavour for such an easy dish this will be a regular in our house now. I bought a 1kg of rolled boneless lamb and diced it up.

  42. One of my favourite recipes. I’ve made it with lamb (usually lamb shanks), chicken and beef, you just need to adjust the cooking time for the type of meat. I usually add lots of veggies as well, such as celery, carrots , pumpkin and also add chickpeas or lentils. I usually double the sauce ingredients and sometimes add a tin of coconut milk. Great to freeze, if there is any not eaten! Yumm!

  43. Not a huge fan of this curry. It tasted ordinary to me. Perhaps I left it on for too long but I would’ve liked more sauce and flavour.

  44. Could you add more vegies- day potato and carrot? Don’t like spicy foods in our house, maybe reduce the curry powder to 1t?

  45. How long should it go on low if you’re out most of the day and aren’t able to do the high, then low thing?

  46. We made this the other night however we used beef as I couldn’t get lamb I also added carrot and potatoes( cut them small enough that they didn’t disappear but cooked ) it was so delicious. We also left it on all day for about 5 to 6 hours

  47. New slow cooker fav!
My kids (3, 18months and 7months) and my parents who were over for dinner polished it off! Was absolutely delish!
I added carrots at the beginning and green bean towards the end as well as doubling the chutney and beef stock! Amazing!

  48. New favourite slow cooker dish!
My kids (7months, 18months and 3) and my parents who were over for dinner absolutely loved it! I added carrots at the beginning and green beans in the last hour of cooking and used double the chutney and beef stock! Served with rice and dinner roll! Was honestly amazing!

  49. We have this on rotation a lot during winter. Tonight I made it with diced Venison instead of lamb and added carrots and peas. Oh my it was just as lovely as when made with lamb.

  50. I loved this recipe. I only added 1 teaspoon of the curry powder cause my one little one. I also just used a full jar of the fruit chutney cause it was pointless leaving 2 spoonfuls in the jar.
    Definitely will make this again

I am allergic to cooked fruit of any kind, aswell as tomatoes, mushrooms and shellfish. I love a good curry but cannot find a recipe that doesn’t have things in it I can’t eat. Can I substitute Corn Relish and/or Sweet Mustard Pickles instead of the Fruit Chutney and Apple?

  52. Lots of flavour, one of the best sweet curries I have ever eaten.
My partner who hates apples in savoury food didn’t even notice the apples and said the meal was delicious.

  53. The flavours are definitely there. I’m going to try this with beef as there was too much fat from the lamb. For sure this is a great dish and I will put it on rotation.

  54. Love this recipe make it all the time
I only use 1t curry powder as the kids don’t like it to hot….
It’s really nice over mash potato

  55. This is the best lamb curry I’ve tasted
I only use 1t curry powder as the kids don’t like it to hot….
It’s really nice over mash potato …. We love it

Have been contemplating making this dish?
Stop thinking and just do it!!!
If you like a slightly sweet and mild curry, this dish is a must. It is totally amazing ?
I used 1.2kg of Mutton Forequarter Chops instead of the diced lamb. It was so tasty served on top of steamed white rice.
Next time I make it (which will be very soon) I will add some carrot circles.
    Paulene……for this dish…..I give you a 1️⃣0️⃣

Made this using beef instead of lamb, a couple of days ago. Turned out totally amazing!
Husband said we should have it again. Step-son inhaled his and took the leftovers to work for lunch the next day

  59. 5 stars
Very yummy! My toddler and husband approved. I also blended some up for my baby who is on puree still and even he liked it.
    Would make again for sure.

Made this today and it is DELICIOUS! And it’s all for me (well maybe some to my toddler). have portioned up for some lunches during the week. Will def be making again.
I halved today’s batch as first time making but will definitely make a bigger batch next time!

  61. Loved this Lamb Curry. I didnt add the cornflour as I love the juices.I will try it next time with lamb 4 Q chops.

  62. 5 stars
Not really a fruity type of curry person but this was a hit!! I did forget to peel apples (will do next time) but hubby & kids said it was great. I did add a 1tsp of ground chilli powder as we like a kick. Definitely one for the regular rotation

  63. 4 stars
Tasty recipe that my young grand daughter also enjoys. Some tweaks include: add half cup frozen peas in last half hour; add half cup uncooked rice and one cup water in last 3 hours.
