Mum’s Rissoles
The classic retro rissole taste – just done in a slow cooker!
Equipment
- 5-7L slow cooker/s
- Nonstick oil spray
Ingredients
- 1 kg beef mince
- 1 brown onion (processed, grated, or fine diced)
- 2 Eggs
- 1/2 cup dried fine breadcrumbs
- 1 tbsp Tomato sauce
- 1 tbsp BBQ sauce
- 2 tbsp Fruit chutney – I use Rosella brand
- 1 pkt French onion soup mix 40g (dry)
- 1 tbsp Minced garlic
- 2 tsp Wholegrain mustard
Instructions
- Add all ingredients to large mixing bowl
- Roll into 18 medium rissoles and flatten each one slightly
- Note: I used 2 x slow cookers with 9 in each. If you only have one slow cooker you could halve the recipe or do in two batches
- Spray slow cooker with non stick oil spray
- Cook on high for 3hrs, turning half way
- Note: If you want a browner finished colour on rissoles you could sear them first and reduce cook time to 2hrs but we didn't and they were just as delicious!
- Alternatives : French onion soup mix can be swapped for Chicken Noodle soup

I made these today & rate them well.
I stuck to the recipe but replaced the breadcrumbs with buckwheat flour, for a gluten free option. The meatballs held together well & had a lovely flavour,, they just need a little more ‘kick’ i felt. I smothered them with mushroom gravy, will make again : )
these were delicious. I followed the recipe and added mushroom Gravy when plated.Definitely make again 😋
