
Retro Braised Steak & Onions
A retro blast from the past dish in the slow cooker – Braised Steak & Onions.
Equipment
- 6.5L Slow Cooker
Ingredients
- 2.5 kg topside beef
- 1 kg pearl onions
- 200 grams baby carrots
- 200 grams button mushrooms
- red wine for marinating
- 1/4 cup Worcestershire sauce
- few sprigs fresh thyme & rosemary
- 2 tbsp Tomato paste
- 1 tsp Vegetta vegetable stock powder
- Cornflour (to thicken)
Instructions
- Slice topside beef into thick steaks. Marinate in red wine, Worcestershire, rosemary, thyme, garlic & some of the onion overnight.
- Sear off quickly your marinated steaks before beginning the slow cooking.
- Add all into the slow cooker (including the marinade liquids) with more onions, baby carrots, mushrooms & tomato paste. Add a sprinkle of veggetta.
- Slow cook on low for 8 hours.
- Remove the meat when tender and thicken the gravy with corn flour (mixed in a little water to form a slurry).
