Rich Gravy Lamb Shanks
Lamb Shanks in Rich Gravy Sauce
Serving: 2
Ingredients
- 2 lamb shanks
- I carrot diced
- 2 onions chopped
- 4 cloves chopped garlic(or to your taste)
- 1 Can diced tomatoes
- 1Tbs Worcestershire sauce
- 1Tbs Soy Sauce
- 1Tbs Oyster sauce
- 1cup beef stock
- 1/2 cup red wine
- 2Tbs gravy powder mixed in 1 cup water
- 2 sprigs fresh Rosemary torn off stem
- Small amount fresh thyme
Instructions
- Brown shanks in oil in pan, remove and place in slow cooker.
- Cook onion, carrot and garlic in meat juices in pan until onion translucent. Place on top of shanks in slow cooker.
- Pour wine into pan and heat to loosen leftovers from meat and onion etc, and pour over top of shanks.
- Add can of tomatoes and stock to slow cooker.
- Mix gravy powder with water, add Soy, Worcestershire and Oyster sauces. Pour over shanks.
- Add rosemary and thyme and cook on low for 8 hours or until meat is tender.
- I removed the shanks after 8 hours and put them in the oven to keep warm while I thickened the gravy with a bit of corn flour mixed in water.
- Obviously this has to be served with mashed potato!!

Cooked this with 5 lamb shanks and there was more than enough gravy for them. Nice flavour. But took quite a bit to thicken. Could have been due to having cooking more shanks. Elderly neighbour loved it. Would make this again for sure.
Really lovely. Changed some of the measurements as I had 4 lamb shanks and needed less liquid so I didn’t overflow my cooker. We also used a redwine sauce mix (masterfoods).
The meat fell right off the bone and it was delightful to eat. Served with mash potato aswell.
Didn’t realise I needed to prepare things on a fry pan prior to slow cooking, but that’s ok!
I was a bit worried it was going to be over powered by the tomato, but it was a nice balance and suited hubby and I and our preferences 🙂 will make it again!
My husband loves lamb shanks and I have cooked them a million times over the years using all sorts of recipes and he said these are the best yet so thank you so very much. ???
We really enjoyed this dish, next time I will use low salt soy sauce. Plenty of sauce for 4 shanks.
Made this recipe today and we thoroughly enjoyed it. More sauce than we needed, but will have over lamb chops tomorrow.
These were the best I have had. Absolutely delicious. Definitely going to be a regular meal at our house.
YUMMMMMMMMMMMY WOW love this recipe I added some mushrooms to mine and tripled the garlic (garlic always measured with the heart) had to thicken gravey served with mash and steamed veg would give this a score of 15 out of 10
Yum these lamb shanks were so good no leftovers on anyone’s plate. Will make again
Did this one on the weekend, homegrown lamb and potatoes, this recipe really did honour the ingredients! made great leftovers too
I love this feedback! Thanks Rebecca 🙂
Scrumptious recipe for lamb shanks with hubby giving it a 10/10 and saying YUMMO 🤤🤩
NOTE: I added 1 teaspoon each dried thyme & rosemary. And I also left out the water because I thought there was plenty of liquid in the recipe. Came out perfect. I sc them in my GreenPan slow cooker for 8 hours on low.
Thanks Jenny P
Fantastic feedback – thanks Jenny!
I cooked this today and it was incredibly delicious. I did add mushrooms but didn’t use the red wine, rosemary or thyme because I didn’t have them. My Husband and I both thoroughly enjoyed it and we’ll definitely be cooking it again. Thanks for another easy, delicious and very tasty recipe. Happy Slow Cooking everyone. We give this recipe 10/10.
What a fabulous review! Thanks Bernice 🙂
I made this for my daughter and her family. Also provided mashed potatoes.
My son in law loved it and asked for the recipe, my daughter enjoyed it as well.
The two grandkids would not try any, but you can’t win them all!
I just added a dash of dried thyme and forgot all about the rosemary. We have it growing but it was 5.30am when I put this on and I meant to pick it later when it got light. And I had no oyster sauce. But it still looked pretty good, if I may say so!
Wonderful! Thanks for your great feedback Cheryl 🙂 🙂
