Great recipe, I used black tea and sherry and has turned out great in fact I’ve made it twice using my small bundt cake tin.

  3. Hi.Was just wondering if anyone has made this cake with rum or vodka, and how did it go?Many thanks

      Hi Michelle
I see the comment below yours used sherry so don’t see why you couldn’t try rum etc also 🙂

I made this today with orange juice & brandy. It burnt a little around the edges, I had kept turning the bowl so I think I will double layer the baking paper next time. Was still a nice cake, nice & light. Doing it with chocolate milk & baileys tomorrow x

I’ve now made over a dozen of these cakes over the last 3 months and love them .
The only thing I change from time to time is to use gluten free flour and Xanthan gum and you can’t taste the difference.

Sheryl the fruit amount as stated in recipe is neither – it’s 300gm

  7. Hello, I am doing this cake tomorrow. But my problem is that when I put water in the sc the water enters into the cake tin. Is it ok or shall I wrap the foil around the tin before putting into the sc ? Thanks in advance ????

Yep I’d wrap it in foil if that’s happening for you Martina

Another 5 star recipe, we made our own chocolate milk. Cut in slices and freeze for lunch boxes. Perfect

  9. I’m glad I decided to read the reviews as I plonked 1 kg of fruit in chocolate milk ????. I rescued the fruit and I’ll use it to make another cake.

  10. After 2 hrs mine is still tacky and light coloured might give it another 30min any suggestions?

  11. I cooked mine much longer , but still was a tacky kind of result..or should I say stodgy??
Was edible, but ouldn’t make again..

Love this cake. I never ate fruit cake until I made this one for my Mum and had to try it for myself. So so good. Easy to make and a great size to gift to people at Christmas.

So delicious! I have made the full size cake before which was yummy. This smaller size was just as delicious and perfect for less people in the house. Great to have with a cup of tea or with custard. Will definitely be making again.

I just made the baby one
250ml choc milk with 50 ml rum
Definately needs more rum next time
Followed recipe and came out perfectly.
note – it did not soft on the top initially, skewer proved it was cooked all the way thru
    Delicious
