Cook Time 5 hours
Total Time 5 hours 10 minutes
Servings 6

Ingredients

  • 1kg beef mince
  • 400gm can crushed or diced tomatoes
  • 500ml jar pasta bake sauce (a cheesy tomato variety is best eg Creamy Tomato Mozzarella)
  • 2 diced onions
  • Lots of black pepper (or to your family tastes)
  • 250g small pasta shells

Instructions

  • Combine all ingredients except the pasta in slow cooker
  • Cook on low for 4hrs
  • Add raw pasta and cook for 45-60mins or until pasta is tender to your likings
  • Note: Pasta will absorb the excess liquids when it is added to the recipe so don't be concerned by plenty of liquid during cooking
  • Serve with steamed vegetables of your choice or enjoy it on it's own 🙂

I cook a similar version. I never thought of using a creamy sauce. Will try that next time. My family like curry flavour so I add a tablespoon of powder at the beginning, and a cup of frozen peas & corn with the pasta shells.

  2. Colleen Pearson

It seemed very dry so I added a small tin of tomato soup and it was delicious. Just the right consistency for us, which is fairly thick. Thank you

  3. Kellie Clark

This was a winner in our house! Delicious! Thank you! ?

  4. Natalie Dodds

This is so simple and very tasty! Another new family favourite. I only added 1 onion but also added 2 cloves of fresh diced garlic.

  5. Krystle

This is super easy! I added in zucchini, celery, capsicum and carrot to give it more nutritious value. Next time I think I’ll add herbs and garlic to give it a bit more flavour. Made it for my toddler and have sectioned into containers in the freezer for her.

Yum family fave in our house

Made this week for the first time. Easy “cold day” meal and very yummy. Should have stirred again once I had added pasta, cos some pieces that weren’t 100% covered weren’t quite cooked. Will rectify that next time ?

  8. Natalie Hill

I made this last night for the first time
Bloody amazing !!!! I did add a few herbs and garlic to heighten the taste but Definitely a keeper ??

I wanna try this but wanna know if I need to brown the mince first? And can I use A Bolognese tomato sauce instead of the creamy mozerella one?

    1. Paulene @ Slow Cooker Central

Hi no need to brown. You can use a regular bol sauce but it’ll be less creamy end result

  10. Bex

Is it possible to speed the process up by cooking on high for a couple of hours then switching to low?

    1. Paulene @ Slow Cooker Central

Yes Bex the meat cooking stage could be done faster on high then drop back low for pasta stage 🙂

Huge hit with the family and so easy to make.

  12. Andrea Roberts

This is an old family receipt of ours, called “shells” by my kids. We use all of your ingredients except we use a can of tomato soup instead of the pasta sauce and we have diced bacon, sliced carrots and peas added.

  13. Tawna

I halved the amount of mince and still had heaps left over. It was super easy to make and came out delicious. Next time I might get adventurous and add some extra herbs and garlic.

  14. Natalie

This is absolutely amazing and freezes great.

Loved this was a hit with my husband! Will definitely make this again

Loved this will definitely make again

Absolutely delicious and so easy to make! Instead of jar sauce I used tomato soup and a handful of cheese. Also added plenty of garlic and herbs. Will definitely have this as a regular dish in my house.

I’ve made this lots of times – it’s a firm favourite in our house.

I use 750g of minced beef and 3 cans of tomatoes (otherwise it can be a bit dry) with all other ingredients the same as above. This makes 4 generous helpings.

  19. Michelle

Good recipe for the family – I served with vegies as pictured.
I used 700g mince not 1kg but I think next time I’d drop down to 500g as we don’t like too much meat – and increase the pasta. But will definitely make again.

I only had 500gm mince so used that and you wouldnt know there was slightly less. I also only had large shells and these cooked through in the same time which was nice. Will tweak a little to our tastes next time and possible even turn it into a pasta bake, it was lovely.

  21. Corrine

Instead of adding a jar sauce could you just add some stock. Was thinking 500g of mince, tin of tomatoes and a cup of stock, and just cook the pasta separately. Would that work?

    1. Paulene @ Slow Cooker Central

Because this particular type of sauce used is a creamy consistency you’ll find it less creamy, more watery (even more watery if you don’t cook the pasta in it as it’s designed to absorb extra liquids too) – but you could choose to do that if you wish 🙂

  22. Natalie Wood

I didn’t get it on in time so cooked on high for 2hrs.
Such an easy and yummy dish! Great for those nights where you are feeling lazy!

Made this pasta last night and it was delicious, I made some minor adjustments:

    – 500g mince (there was plenty)
    – some mixed herbs and about 2 tea spoons of garlic
    – 150 bacon pieces

I would recommend when putting the pasta in to fill the pasta sauce jar with 1/2 water, shake and mix. I turned mine off 10 minutes early as it was looking thick. Needed more moister towards the end so will do that next time. Served my partner and I plus three leftovers ?

  24. Helen

I tried this a few weeks back, quick, simple and the kids loved it! Also like to add, it’s VERY filling

  25. Ruth Stevens

Just wondering I don’t have tinned tomatoes but have tin tomato soup would this work the same thanks

    1. Paulene @ Slow Cooker Central

      That would work Ruth 🙂

  26. Wendy Howell

So yummy as a pasta bake! Added Italian Herbs, Garlic granules, sliced champignons, grated carrot & zucchini.

  27. Rae Hawkins

Monday nights are slow cook nights due to my full time tutorials. Well last night I made this dish, I used 1 and a half jars of the pasta bake sauce because I added mushrooms as well. The pasta was cooked perfectly by doing this. Hubby has now said that any meal we can make in the slow cooker will be better instead of the stove or oven. About time I started showing him how to use it as well I think.

  28. Lana

We’ve had this one pot wonder multiple times absolutely delicious ?
I also only put in 500g of mince so it’s a little thicker in texture and cook it in my 3lt slow cooker
Reheats well from being frozen in individual meals

    1. Paulene @ Slow Cooker Central

That’s great info to include about the freezing, thanks Lana!

I call this recipe All In Mince because apart from the listed ingredients I add frozen veg and whatever else needs to be used. Certainly freezes well and makes for a good work meal with microwave rice. 5 stars

This time I was able to brown the mince and put all the ingredients in the slow cooker. This is by far my favorite pasta dish. This is going to be a regular on the menu. Thank you so much Paulene for sharing your recipe ??

This looks amazing, I do similar but for the sause i use pasata sauce, tomato puree, chopped tomatoes and cream cheese like philadelphia cheese, garlic, oregano and a little sugar to take away the sharpness of the tomatoes.

Love this one but if you don’t have tinned tomatoes you can use a half tin of Condensed tomato soup. We always do it with the tomato soup now.

Such an easy recipe, well worth trying, I did add some garlic and cheese and added only one onion instead off two, enjoyed by everyone, will definitely make again , next time I will add peas and grated carrots at the start.

Really yummy! I used a normal bolognese sauce and added some carrot and garlic, and got the thumbs up from all the kiddos! Will definitely be using this recipe again

    Nice, creamy and saucy.
This is a great quick cook if using high setting.
I added more water with pasta as I added whole packet pasta-500g.
    Still turned out great.

    1. Paulene @ Slow Cooker Central

So happy you enjoyed it too Kerry! Thanks for leaving your feedback 🙂

  37. Shannon

Did 500g mince, added veges and some bacon, used a dolmio sauce and added cheese to thicken it up

  38. nate

followed recipe though I used 800gm can of crushed tomatoes and this definitely needs more fluid. It also could do with some vegetables to balance it out.
will be added this to growing list of recipes that not only satisfy hungry adults but can be reheated next day for lunch at work
