Serving: 28
Prep Time 15 minutes
Cook Time 4 hours 35 minutes
Total Time 4 hours 50 minutes

Ingredients

Meatballs

  • 600g tray of pork (70%) and veal (30%) mince
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tbsp fresh parsley, chopped
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp minced garlic
  • 1/8 cup dried, fine Parmesan
  • 1/3 cup panko breadcrumbs

Sauce

  • 1 X 400g cam Ardmona Italian Herb tinned tomatoes with paste (see notes below)
  • 1 onion fine diced
  • 1 Tbsp minced garlic
  • 1 tbsp fresh basil, chopped
  • 1 tbsp fresh oregano, chopped
  • 1 tbsp fresh parsley, chopped

Notes

  • If you cannot purchase the combined tomatoes with paste use:
  • 1 Can diced tomatoes
  • 1 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1 tsp dried mixed herbs

Instructions

  • Combine all ingredients for meatballs
  • Wash hands then use fingers to combine well
  • Roll into small balls (smaller than golf ball size - mine made 28 small balls) and set aside
  • Combine all sauce ingredients in slow cooker and stir to combine
  • Gently place meatballs on top of sauce - do not stir!
  • Replace lid and cook on low for approx 4-5hrs
  • Serve on split hotdog rolls with a sprinkling of Parmesan for a great easy meal - perfect for taking to sports or serving at picnics or parties

Notes

  • I used a 6L Morphy Richards
  • Resist urge to touch meatballs at all until at least the last hour so they remain firmly intact. I only flipped them over gently in the last hour then left them again.

Easy and not too many ingredients to make this dish. The pork and veal mince comes like that in a tray. I had everything I needed in my pantry. I added extra tomato paste , half a finely chopped onion and crumbled a half chicken stock cube to enhance the tomato sauce flavour. You can use this to add to pasta, make meatball subs adding some grated cheese on top.

Very quick and easy meal. I used 500g pork mince and 500g veal mince plus 2 cans ardmona tomatoes with mixed herbs. I served on soft long rolls with grated cheese, cucumber, red onion and baby spinach.

  3. This is delish! My four kids and hubby wolfed it down and asked for more. Perfect for when friends come over or for the kids before busy, after school activities.

Absolutely amazing meal right here, no more Subway for us 🙂 We used 2 jars of Leggo’s chunky tomato, garlic and herbs bolognese instead of tinned tomatoes because I didn’t have them in the pantry and 2 big Tbs of tomato paste and 1kg of pork/veal mince which made 38 meatballs. Cooked on high for 2.5 hours and served on super subs for the adults and vietnamese rolls for the kids… Perfect 10 out of 10 from everyone here! Thanks for another great recipe Paulene 🙂

  5. Served in hotdog rolls with grated cheese Delicious and everyone loved it. Will cook it again!

  6. Delicious – I used Pork & beef mince & doubled the sauce. Great to serve with salad & crusty bread.

Thank you for creating this site. I am really enjoying. I only just bought a slow cooker as I don’t have an oven. I wish I had known about automatic turn off function.

Yummo ! So good used fresh parsley but other herbs I used dry variety.

  9. My 3 boys absolutely demolished this! This recipe will be a firm favourite in our house from now on and will get a workout during football season. Yummm!

Kristen you could if you wanted to, but I don’t find it necessary at all 🙂

Finally did this recipe & it didn’t disappoint. The only difference I made was to use mozzarella instead of Parmesan. Definitely making again.

Have made this several times now and is a favourite in our household, they always go back for seconds.

  13. First time making this Meatball sub recipe.
    Very yummy.
    Served on Hotdog rolls.
Added some grated tasty cheese instead of the parmesan cheese.
Once prepared, put the subs under the grill to melt the cheese on top and to crisp up the rolls alittle bit.
This was Mr Teenager’s favourite meal of the week.
