Serving: 6
Prep Time 10 minutes
Cook Time 2 hours 30 minutes
Total Time 2 hours 40 minutes
Servings 4

Ingredients

  • ½ cup water
  • 1 teaspoon beef stock powder
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 crushed clove garlic (1 teaspoon jar)
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder (1/2 finally chopped onion can be used instead)
  • 3 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 3 Tablespoons tomato sauce
  • 300 ml cooking cream
  • 6 steaks (I used 800 grams rump steak cut into smaller steaks with fat removed)
  • Shallots to garnish (optional)

Instructions

  • Place everything in slow cooker except for steaks.
  • Mix well.
  • Add steaks. Browning the steaks first is personal preference, I didn’t.
  • Cook on low for 2.5 hours or until steaks are tender.
  • Once steaks are cooked remove to thicken sauce to the consistency required (see notes below)

Notes

  • I used 5.5 L cookwell slow cooker.
  • Serve with vegetables or chips and salad.
  • There would be enough sauce for a couple of extra steaks if you wish.
  • How I thickened sauce: In small saucepan over medium heat melt 2 tablespoons butter (25grams). Add 2 tablespoons plain flour, mix well and cook for 1 minute. Slowly add 1 cup of sauce whisking the whole time. Add thickened part of sauce back to sc and whisk together with rest of sauce. Or you can use your own method of thickening.

  1. Just like a pub steak – without the cost. A simple meal, easy to follow, yet so much flavour

Love this recipe. Easy to make & very tasty. Hubby loves steak & this is a winner for him too.

  3. Very nice and easy to make. I browned my steak first. Whole family loved it, definitely cook again.

I made this for my family, and they loved it! I substituted the rump steak with gravy beef (and browned the beef first). I also increased the time to 5 hours on low. It was absolutely delicious and I will definitely make it again.

  8. This is soooooo good ? especially the sauce mmmmmm ? thanku for sharing your recipe Karen!!! I have quite a bit of the sauce leftover to use for another night ?

  9. So yummy!!! Just made this for dinner – I was a little bit dubious but it was great. Even my fussy husband approved. I’m normally terrible at cooking steak so doing it in the slow cooker was amazing! Sooooo tender

Had this last night for dinner and thoroughly enjoyed it, hubby did as well…..thank you Karen for sharing this one!

  11. Certainly was a hit with the family. I used rump steak and slow cooked it for the required time of 2.5hrs but unfortunately the steak was tough so i had to cook the steak for a further hour. Maybe this depended on my slow cooker? All in all was lovely though ?

  12. Steak wasn’t tender in the 2.5 hours so ended up cutting it and adding spinach, zucchini, mushroom and rigatoni in a saucepan. Kind of like a weird stroganoff in the end lol would probably cook for 4 hours next time.

  13. Cooked this tonight for me and my fiancé and it was amazing, I lashed out and used 3 big porterhouse steaks and they were so tender and juicy, I did them for 5 hours on low, I also added some black pepper corns to the sauce and seasoned the steaks with lots of sea salt and pepper before putting them in the sc, the sauce thickening method works a treat as well. 10/10 will make again

Wow Karen Stuckings this recipe is the bomb ?? Absolutely delicious flavour and the steaks were soooo soft and tender ?? Will make this time and time again for sure and just change up sides to accompany. Only adjustments I made were that I doubled all sauce ingredients as I was cooking 2kg of rump steak and upped the onion and garlic to 1.5 TBS of each. Cooked on low for 5 hours… perfecto ? Thanks again for sharing this Karen ? Highly recommend you try this one too ?

    Pretty Average Meal
Steak was still Tough after 5 Hours on Low But the Sauce was really Nice apart from the Cream Split

  16. Jenni hutchings March 31, 2019

So easy, I did not bother browning the steak first and also did 6 hours on low .

  17. Made the Creamy Steak Diane for the first time and it was a huge family hit! Followed the recipe exactly and the notes (except cooked for 5 hours on low) and it was perfect! (I chose to brown my steak first).

    Will make again!!

One of my favourite meals I would order when going out to tea I can now make at home. This was delicious, all plates licked clean and had left overs for my son to take to work (was meant to be two work meals but he liked it so much he’s taking it all tomorrow).

  21. Hi
In Australia what would I use for your ingredient using the US term “tomato sauce “. In Aus tomato sauce is like US bottled tomato ketchup

Hi MB … I am Australian also, so yep same sauce as you, the ketchup kind 🙂

This is such a delicious meal!!! The sauce is to die for even though tonight I had to leave the garlic n onion out as I was suffering from heartburn ???? last night n didn’t want to chance it!!! I used 4 sml rump steak medallions (bought from Woolies, 2 in a pk) n served them with potato ?, sweet potato ? n pumpkin ? mash, steamed broccoli ? n zucchini, it was sooo good ????

Thank you for sharing your amazing recipe with us Karen ???

Yum Yum Yum!!! An incredibly easy and tasty dish to make. I didn’t sear my steak first and used Carnation Lite Cooking Cream. Served with roast pumpkin and yams along with steamed broccoli, carrots and peas. Will definitely be making again.
