Made this for the first time and it’s an absolutely amazing meal. So easy to make and so full of flavour

  2. This was yum & it smelled amazing too!
We skipped the two cups of water entirely , & it was still lots of liquid in the end dish
Also added some frozen broccoli in last hour & reserved half the green onions for last 30 mins too & we served on rice with veg
For us personally I’d halve the 2 spices next time just to lessen the strength in the final dish, but would definitely do it again!
    Yum ?
Thanks for sharing your recipe Jarrah x

Great flavour. The smell wafting through the kitchen was lovely. I reduced the amount of liquid in the recipe as do not like runny stews.

Made this for the family it was sooo good. I ended up cooking it on low for about 7hrs which was perfect for the amount that I had. Used sweet chilli sauce instead of sambal olek. Had enough for left overs for another night and it was just as good. Added green beans, cauliflower and some carrots to it, served with steam rice. Will be making this again.

My children commented on how yum this smelt as it was cooking. I have to agree. The house smelt amazing all afternoon as this cooked. And gee did it deliver! Chinese Braised Beef had an amazing flavour. I didn’t have the sambal olek chilli paste so switched it for a dash of sweet chilli sauce and I didn’t have the Chinese Five Spice either but honestly this dish is scrumptious. I made quite a bit and leftovers were eaten the next day with compliments to the chef! Win win!

  6. Coconut sugar is sugar alternative found in most supermarkets. Any type of sugar can be substituted I generally use coconut or brown sugar in this recipe.

So tasty, the flavour was wonderful, and the meat was melt in your mouth tender. Another awesome recipe to add to my collection.. Thank you.

Only did one cup of liquid instead of the 3 cups and it was plenty. Also had to use sweet chilli sauce like another commenter as I had no sambal okek.
