I pretty much doubled the paprika, Worcestershire sauce, and stock as I found it lacked flavour when I tried the sauce half way through. I also added about 4 tablespoons of tomato paste to the mixture half way into the cooking time.

We have made this a few times now and it is sooo good! We serve it over mashed potato and it is full of flavour. We double the recipe so there is heaps in a 5 litre slow cooker.

I also used this recipe today and although I had to improvise on a couple of ingredients it turned out to be quite delicious. Thanks for sharing.

  4. Anna

I used beef stock rather than water. Full of flavour. delicious.

Hello Kelli Wishart. A couple of questions from a novice in Zimbabwe!
When do you add the mushrooms?
When do you add the cornflour?
    🙂

This was divine. I took note of the other comments and used beef stock instead of water, added 2 heaped tablespoons of tomato paste and doubled the sauce ingredients. I also used a mix of regular and smoked paprika which gave it a lovely flavour. I did have to up the cornflour about two hours into the cook (I cooked it on high for 4 hours as that’s all I had) but that was nothing major. This was inhaled by my 4 and 1 year old daughters. This will become a regular in our house.

Beef Strogg is on weekly rotation in our house! I follow this recipe every time and it is delicious, I’ve never even looked at the other options on this site as it suits us fine. Both my 3yr old and 20mth old love it as well!

I made a double batch to go with a grand final hungi feast and it was devine. The flavour was outstanding and everyone raved about it. Simple to make and full of flavour. This will be my ‘go-to’ Beef Stroganoff recipe now. Fabulous recipe!

Whe would you add the mushroom, in the last hour or from the beginning.
    Thanks

    1. Paulene @ Slow Cooker Central

I would add them at the start myself 🙂

I added white wine & chicken stock
No hot sauce or corn flour it turn out absolutely delicious ?
I’m pretty heavy handed with the white wine & sour cream in my stroganoff
And no I don’t the drink wine either lol

  12. Linda

This was lovely. There was no mention of tomato paste in the list of ingredients, I added a sachet and the taste was lovely. Everyone gobbled it down, this will be on our rotation menu for the colder weather. Thank you

  13. Jenni hutchings

So good, read the reviews and added tomato paste and swapped in beef stock

Kept to the original recipe except use beef stock instead of water.
Found it to be quite runny (Should have added more cornflour or used less liquid?).
When I added the sour cream, the liquid took over the taste of the cream.
Had some left overs and the next day put the left over stroganoff into a saucepan and simmered until the liquid was reduced, had it with veggies and roast spuds, that was very nice.

  15. Rachel

Really nice and everyone ate it – bonus! Not sure 500g diced beef would have been enough for 4, I used 800g chuck steak diced and was only just enough. Nothing left over. Will go on rotation 🙂

Hands down the best stroganoff I have ever tasted! I also use stock instead of water, a splash of white wine, tomato paste and add extra of the sauce ingredients like someone suggested! Serve with Mash, Beans and hot crusty bread rolls!!!! ?

  17. Kathryn

This was soooo yum, won’t go back to the packet mixes. Followed the suggestions of beef stock and tomato paste which I think made it. Using Aldi sour cream was brilliant as it was so thick and creamy ?

  18. Lou

Not sure where I went wrong but I didn’t find it flavoursome.

  19. Jessica

Not sure what I did wrong but mine turned out very watery, & not thick at all. I cooked on high for 4 hours instead of low for 8, could that of been a factor?

    1. Paulene @ Slow Cooker Central

      That would change things 🙂
Low and slow is ideal for slow cooking
But other options can still be used to thicken.

Thank you Paulene, I will try cooking it on low hear next time

    Hi
Does anyone have any thoughts about the Breville sear and slow cooker 5.5 Lt
I find it runs very hot
Just an example of beef stroganoff that I’ve made recently states cooked on low for 6 hours and find the meat was pretty tender at 4 hours but kept it cooking until 6hours just to test it out and meat was quite tough after the 6hours
anyone else find the same thing?

    1. Paulene @ Slow Cooker Central

Donna slow cookers do vary, you get to know your own.
So if you know this one usually finishes and hour or 2 earlier than recommended that’s what you adjust to 🙂

Tasty. Made following the recipe, although doubled paprika, Worcestershire sauce and garlic. Used 200ml beef stock instead of water and added a satchel of tomato paste.
Enjoyed by partner and toddler but have been asked to leave capsicum out next time (I liked it with it)
    Will make again without caps.

Followed this to the letter except added a little chilli sauce. And used the tea towel method. Husband said it was one of the best meals I’ve ever cooked!!!! Sure was delicious. And so easy.

I added tsp of Vegemite instead of the chicken stock, tomato paste, frozen spinach, mustard and extra of the mentioned ingredients but I still found it a little bland. Will probably use the T-towel trick next time (even though I didn’t add any water.)
Overall it was an easy dish to make and no complaints from husband ???

  25. Margaret

PS I should’ve read my own previous comment re: T-towel trick ??

I’ve never made this before but gosh, it was lovely. I used a chicken stockpot though instead of the veg stock. Served with rice. Delicious.

Definitely a winter warmer but needed more Paprika, worstershire sauce and a good dollop of tomato paste.

Made this last night using 850g chuck steak, cubed.
i added an extra tablespoon of Worcestershire sauce, 2 extra tablespoons of paprika and 1 tablespoon of tomato paste.
cooked on low for 7 hours and meat was falling apart.
Served with creamy mash. Partner said it was the best strong I’ve made and loved the addition of capsicum.

WOW after a few hikups I got there. I was told this and the most amazing beef stroganoff I’ve made. I did use beef stock not water added tomatoe paste, then at the end before adding the sour cream I added some tomato sauce. so amazing so easy! I love it.

This is the second time I’ve made this. I just scrolled down for my feed-back & id written that my husband said it was one of the best meals I’ve ever made. Well he said it again last night 😆. It really is delicious. 🫶🏼
This time I didn’t add the water (so I didn’t do the T-towel trick) because it makes enough liquid. I did add some sun-dried tomatoes, because I had loads. And a little chilli.

    1. Paulene @ Slow Cooker Central

hahaha I love how your feedback helped you decide!
