Mexicano Meatballs
Easy meatballs in a creamy mex-taco sauce!
Equipment
- 3L or larger slow cooker
Ingredients
- 2 trays ready-made meatballs (raw) – I used 2 x trays of 20 small pork and veal meatballs per tray
- 300 ml cooking cream
- 300 g Jar of salsa – we prefer mild but you can use hot
- 2 pkts taco seasoning mix – we prefer the reduced salt version
Instructions
- Combine the cooking cream, salsa and taco mix and pour into slow cooker
- Place meatballs, raw, into sauce mixture
- Cook on low for 5hrs
- When cooking meatballs, do not stir until at least 2-3hrs into cooking time. The meatballs are then sealed by that point, and you can stir gently to mix through sauce occasionally from then on and they won't break apart at all 🙂
- We served ours on a potato and chive mash
- Note: We use ready-made, raw meatballs in this recipe for a quick easy meal. However, if you prefer to use your own home-made meatballs you can absolutely do so using your usual favourite meatball recipe. Then just add those to the sauce as per recipe and continue.

Are these meatballs suitable to freeze?
Thank you
I haven’t tried freezing them Michelle but I believe they’d be ok to do so 🙂
Achieved the holy grail with these. A meal that was quick, easy, inexpensive and delicious. Even the kids thought so! I served it with microwave Mexican rice for a quick after sport dinner, will definitely be making its way into our regular rotation.
OMG these are so delicious and so easy to make… my husband asked when I can make them again.. and he is a fuzzy eater.. so I guess this is going to be my easy go to food when I am in a hurry in the morning..
Was very tasty, next time I will add just 1 packet of seasoning as others found it a little spicy whereas I like a little spice and I loved it
Oh man this was delicious. My husband nearly licked his plate clean ?
I used one packet of pre-made meatballs.
I have two of my three grown up boys coming home next week, so I will make this again with two
trays of meat balls.
This is one of our favourite dishes, always thinking there will be plenty for another meal but nope always gone in one sitting.
Thank you for this recipe, so easy and delicious. I did not have cooking cream so subbed coconut cream and it worked well, also added a couple of tins of Edgells Mexican bean mix for the last hour to stretch it further.
Great suggestions – thanks Maryellen!!
Absolutely delicious! Mr fussy also enjoyed. Will definately make them again
Absolutely delish! This was a winner with my family Served ours with mash & corn cobs. Husband & kids gobbled it up
Another great recipe.
Easy and little bit spicy as I used medium salsa.
Served with rice and veg.
Next time I’d like to try in a burrito.

Oh my! This is delicious ? and so simple. Will be putting it in the favourites list. Thankyou for the recipe ?
Loved how versatile these meatballs are. We only used 1 tray of meatballs and some garlic as it’s only the 2 of us. Tonight we had them as meatball subs with fresh bread rolls. The leftovers we will have with spaghetti. Thankyou for easy and versatile recipes Paulene and all contributors.
Excellent. Will definitely make again.
Delicious, lol, found out why to use salt reduced Taco mix, was a tad salty, so I know for next time.
These are really good, very easy to make, taste soo good, even the grandkids enjoyed them. I will definitely be making them a lot more. They freeze well too
Thanks Cathy, that’s great to know they freeze well too! 🙂
One of our Fams absolute favourite Dish. We love simple and tasty dishes. Even took it to a family function and everyone absolutely loved them.
Absolutely excellent after a very early start to the day – served with mashed potato and a salad. The whole family loved it so I will definitely be making this again!
Perfect! Love this Catherine 🙂
Flavour is good but a lot of liquid, 1/2 way through cooking, I used the tea towel method
Absolutely delicious and so easy!
Thanks Catherine! So happy you loved it too 🙂

we used all the ingredients listedted (same brands ext)
however used 1 tray of meatballs and 1 packet of the seasoning and still had a bit of spice to it. I added sour cream into the kids meatballs and sauce before servings and they loved it.
severed on sweet potato mash with Broccoli and carrots.
Great way to lessen the spice for the kiddos Petra! Thanks for sharing 🙂
was awesome so easy to make and great tasting very Moorish had mine with rice as I freeze my meals to take to work through the week 😋
That’s awesome! Some yummy work dinners coming up for you Matthew 🙂
Very yummy.
We made our own chicken balls with 1kg of mince and ended up with 45 balls and used 2 packets of the MUNGLE Taco Spice mix and it was quite spicy but very delicious. Definitely will have again but maybe just 1 packet of spice if I use the same brand again.

So very easy and tasty!!! 10/10. Will definitely be cooking again. Was worried it would be too spicy on a taste test at the 4th hour but turned out mild and beautiful. Thank you Paulene

Easy, delicious and an all around hit with the crew at work.
Made two slow cookers full and there was nothing left!
I used ready made meatballs, and served them with sour cream or Greek yoghurt, cheese, corn chips, and a fresh salsa made with diced tomato, avocado, red onion & lemon juice.
Yum!
Sounds like they were a hit! 🙂
Tasty, easy and cheap. Ticks all the boxes.
Wonderful to hear! Thanks Steve 🙂
This was really tasty and super easy. I only used one packet of taco seasoning and it was still a great flavour. Everyone in the house liked this one – and that’s a hard thing to achieve!!! Will definitely make again.
