Serving: 6
Prep Time 5 minutes
Cook Time 4 hours
Total Time 4 hours 5 minutes

Ingredients

  • 12 thin beef sausages
  • 1 x 420g can Campbell's Condensed Cream of Mushroom Soup (no water added)
  • 1 x 40g Packet French Onion Soup Mix (dry)
  • 1-2 Tablespoons Worcestireshire Sauce
  • 1 onion, diced
  • 1 Tablespoon Mint Sauce or Mint Jelly (Optional)

Instructions

  • Inspired by the original Lamb Obsession recipe - just using sausages.
  • Place sausages in slow cooker bowl
  • Add onion
  • Combine all other ingredients and pour over sausages
  • Cook on low for 4-5hrs approximately
  • *NOTE*
  • This does NOT taste like mushroom.
  • Even seasoned mushroom haters have been fed this without knowing and not one has detected the mushroom yet!
  • The mint is the mildest hint of flavour but if you really, really dont like it then just leave it out, it wont matter.

  1. This was easy & nice. Didn’t taste like mushrooms at all. I don’t like mushrooms so was a little sceptical but was nicely surprised. Will only put 1/2 teaspoon of mint sauce next time.

    1. Paulene @ Slow Cooker Central August 12, 2016

      Totally up to personal choice!
Some like to but personally I never do 🙂

  2. Jade Whitham August 12, 2016

So I didnt hate it but i didnt like it either and i dont intend to make it again I found it was way to salty I’m not use to much salt and thats all i could taste and my kids also didn’t like it and they aren’t fussy but they never have salt maybe that’s why they don’t like it but my best friend who also ate it with us absolutely loved it! Having said that I’ve seen so many rave on about lamb obsession so I still even after this wanted to try it out as maybe it may taste better with a different meat but how would I make it not so salty like this one?? Tia

    1. Paulene @ Slow Cooker Central August 12, 2016

If you are going to try any of the obsessions then lamb is the one to try – that’s the original recipe
This is only an offshoot of that.
Use salt reduced soups and it slashes the salt 🙂

  3. I liked it but didn’t hate it either. I would definitely recommend pre-cutting the sausages as the sauce didn’t combine properly during the cook. Would also recommend using a higher grade sausage as we used bulk pack sausages that didn’t have the best taste with the obsession sauce. But we do love lamb obsession so might just stick to it 🙂

  4. yummy!! will def be cooking again, hubby liked it to who doesnt like many slow cooked meals.

I had seen plenty of people raving about how fantastic this & the lamb obsession were but hadn’t gotten around to trying it myself. Why did I wait so long!!! Yum! Will be trying the lamb obsession next time any lamb cut is on special!

  7. Donna-Maree Carroll May 26, 2017

I made this tonight for dinner and WOW! It was not only simple to make but it was also extremely tasty. We’ve got enough for another meal put away in the freezer which is a bonus. This was only my 2nd ever experience with slow cooking and when things like this are being cooked I’m delighted.

  8. Sarah De Boar June 21, 2017

For anyone who hasn’t tried sausage obsession. Seriously do it. Absolutely bloody beautiful!! Hubby & toddler demolished their servings!! So tasty. I did brown the sausages beforehand & I sprinkled with chicken stock powder & garlic powder while browning. Also I needed to add about 1.5-2 cups of water during cooking as it was just too thick & I also didn’t add the mint sauce. Definitely will be on our fortnightly meal plan 😉

  9. This was such a yummy meal both me and my partner loved it and he is such a fussy eater. It was so delicious and made enough for leftovers the next day. I added an extra can of cream of mushroom soup to make it more saucy and 2 tablespoons of worcesttireshire as I was worried it would be super salty but it was perfect and definitely saving this recipe for next time… plus this is such a super cheap and totally easy meal to make

  10. Ellen Polomka June 23, 2017

Will be making again. I cut the sausages into 3-4 pieces. It is delicious.

  11. Darren Comley June 24, 2017

Outstanding. Was inspired by a photo posted by Sarah De Boar in the week so had to try this. Cannot use onion (Old Master Fussy) and sprinkled garlic powder and season all salt as I browned the snags. Young Mr Fussy liked it but said it had too much flavour…he will learn 🙂

I will definitely do this again as it went down reasonably well with the family.

  12. Nadine Underwood June 28, 2017

    Whole family LOVED this.
I have 3 mushroom haters… to the dry retch stage? I couldn’t bear the thought of wasting this tea with mushroom soup so thought I’d try half tin of mushroom soup & half tin Passata (tomato soup would work) woohoo ? They DIDN’T pick the mushroom soup…won’t push my luck though …& I’ve burnt the evidence…soup label gone!
Also used Cumberland sausages Mmm well worth the extra $$$

  13. Nadine Underwood June 29, 2017

WINNER! We have Mushroom HATERS ( to the dry retch stage!) I couldn’t bare wasting tea because they picked the Mushroom soup, so I did half Mushroom soup & Half Passata (or Tomato soup would have worked too) a bit of a *Devilled Sausage Obsession*!!!
They didn’t pick it, We all loved it.
I used Cumberland Sausages, didn’t pre cook them ( don’t have time at 8am!)
I’m a bit heavy handed with the Worcester as me & my family are Worcestershirians
For anyone stuck with “THAT” word … it’s said WUSS (as in puss) T (as in phonetically T not Tee) SHHR . . .
    Xxx

  14. Loved it. Left sausages whole, the skins stayed intact, and left out the mint sauce. Delicious! Really nice. Will definitely make again.

  15. Delish 🙂 So easy to put on and leave ready for dinner . Just served with steam veg and pasta

  16. Samantha Cooper July 3, 2017

Made this and omgosh. Was delish. Was a hit. Added mushroom, bacon, capsicum and potatoes to take some of the salty taste away. Next time ill use salt reduced soup. Served with pasta

  17. i make this using lamb sausages – and lots of onions 🙂 everyone loves as much as the original 🙂

  18. Cheryl Rebbechi September 15, 2017

Would love to make this but only have Cream of Chicken soup.
Would it still work with using this instead of the mushroom soup?
    thanks

    1. Paulene @ Slow Cooker Central September 21, 2017

It won’t taste the same as it’s meant to but sure it will still work 🙂

  19. Halved the Wostershire sauce, added bacon and two medium thinly sliced potatoes. Used Italian sausage (not browned and cut into bite sized chunks), added cooked corn 10 minutes from serving. Added a little gravy powder to thicken the sauce at the end. Served over rice. Added to the “Repeat Menu” by demand!!!!

    1. Paulene @ Slow Cooker Central February 7, 2018

I find some sausages saltier in the slow cooker than others
One easy way to fix this is to add a raw, peeled potato in the last hour or two of cooking
It absorbs the salt from the dish then discard it prior to serving 🙂

  20. Love this dish it is always a winner. So easy and not expensive at all. So so tasty.

  21. Easy, inexpensive and very tasty. Love it.
I prefer browning sausages first and do not add any mint.
    Served with mash. Beautiful

  22. Well, well, well……I too do not like mushrooms and was hesitant in trying this dish. However, it was lovely! As other reviewers have commented, it didn’t taste like mushrooms at all! I am now convinced! lol. My whole family enjoyed this and I am sure we will have this again. Thanks for a wonderful and easy recipe.

  23. Tanya Kendell April 16, 2018

My family love this and I do too for several reasons I can’t always afford meat but snags….well I can afford that and having unique sausage meals is perfect for us, we add a small amount of gravy granules to ours twords the end and serve it on a bed of sour cream mash…..sooooo goooood

  24. Tracey Davies May 19, 2018

Words fail me..this is soooo beautiful. The sauce is so yummy! Loved every mouthful! Made it exactly to the recioe.

  25. Tracey Davies May 19, 2018

Loved every bite of delicious flavour. Made exactly to the recipe. Yummo!!

  26. Chantelle June 6, 2018

Tasted nice although a little salty even though i used salt reduced french onion soup although i think that could be down to the sausages apart from that it was delicious

    1. Paulene @ Slow Cooker Central June 11, 2018

A little tip if that happens in your slow cooking is to add a pealed, raw potato to the pot in the last hour
      Discard before serving
      It will absorb salt

  27. Anna Jeffery July 22, 2018

I found it too salty, though everyone else loved it!? Might be because I used cheap sausages. Next time I’ll try the raw potato tip to reduce saltiness.

  28. Absolutely delicious and the kids loved it! So quick and easy to make, will be a new go to family recipe.

  29. Big win with hubbie he had left overs on a roll thumbs up favourite he gives says 10 lol

  30. Hi fairly new to the whole sc thing ,just wondering I have never cooked chicken or sausages in there before do you need to brown first as I’m a bit worried about the whole raw chicken thing lol.
If you do brown chicken or sausages ect would you cut down the cooking time?
    Thank you

    1. Paulene @ Slow Cooker Central May 2, 2019

      Hi Amanda
Absolutely no need to pre brown either before slow cooking 🙂
      More info HERE

  31. Britt Jacobson-Mills May 19, 2019

This has to be my new favourite recipe. So easy to prepare and tastes amazing!! I didn’t pre brown the sausages and it was fine. I did however add a couple chopped carrots and a stick of chopped celery to the mix. Will have to try this with Lamb next 🙂

  32. Hi there, I’ve made this a few times before and the family absolutely love it! Today however, I do not have dry French onion soup mix, but I do have dry chicken noodle soup mix. Would this work as an alternative ? Has anyone tried it? I understand the flavour will be very different but hoping it’s do-able! Thanks

    1. Paulene @ Slow Cooker Central June 13, 2019

I’m so sorry I only saw this comment two days later! How’d it go? 🙂

  33. Shara Binder August 5, 2019

We had this last night for dinner. All of it is gone! Husband loved it, I loved it and even better, the toddler loved it! He’s in a phase where he throws his food but this, he didn’t even throw cause he liked it too much. Definitely will do it again!

  34. We found it extremely salty, BUT used no name French Onion Soup because that’s all the supermarket had left. Will definitely be trying it again with a different brand of soup mix. Besides that, the flavours were awesome!

    1. Paulene @ Slow Cooker Central December 12, 2019

Yep for sure choose the salt reduced french onion soup pkt next time as it will better suit your tastes 🙂

  35. Jeanne Swart April 14, 2020

Can I use normal onion soup powder? I accidentally bought the wrong one

    1. Paulene @ Slow Cooker Central April 15, 2020

I’ve not tried it but I think that would be ok Jeanne 🙂

  36. Amanda Duck July 22, 2020

I cooked this for the first and what a wow factor and i added a couple tablespoons of mint jelly and absolutely tasty and enjoyable at every bite and will make this again

  37. Absolutely delicious. Husband also loved it. Added some mushrooms I had in the fridge because we love mushrooms and added a bit more Worcestershire sauce. Served with mashed potato, mashed pumpkin and zucchini.
And the best part, this quantity made another 2 meals (that I’ve frozen) for my husband and I. Yum!

  38. Did this yesterday with lamb and feta sausages from Woolworths – these are a thicker gourmet type sausage. Even my fussy teenage daughter and her partner loved this

  39. Julie Neilson August 23, 2021

Excuse me whilst I wipe the drool off the phone screen! ?,
Yesterday I cooked this dish so we had a dish ready to go for dinner tonight.
    Yuuuuum!
I added a big bowl of sliced mushrooms to the pot, a little water ( just so the sauce got extended)
    Bowl licking is an understatement!
A big tick from our household!

  40. Made this last night for the family Dad loved it! He has requested that it gets added to the make again list. Cooked for just over 4hrs, added bacon and carrot to it as well served with potato. Next time I might try it with a vegetable soup base instead.

  41. This was so delicious and so easy!
3 members of my family despise mushrooms and they had absolutely NO IDEA, that there was mushroom soup in this, and gobbled it up happily.
The sausages were so soft and lovely after being slow cooked and were so easy and delicious to eat.
My very fussy daughter said that it didn’t look very nice, but then I finally convinced her to just try it, and she loved it so much that she ate the whole lot so fast and asked for second helpings, and I had a giggle to myself.

  42. Susan Williams June 14, 2022

Very tasty. I followed the recipe exactly using Chippolata sausages. Next time I will add some mushrooms.

  43. Wow wow wow this is AMAZING!!! Even my fussy husband said it was delicious and to make it again. The sauce is so finger licking good!!! This has been added to my forever recipe collection, which I don’t put many recipes on… however this I want to keep making forever!! Thank you!

  44. Kerry Houghton August 3, 2022

We found it too Salty, even though I used the salt reduced French onion soup packet, with the mushroom soup. We put it down to the sausages maybe, I purchased them from Aldi.

    1. Paulene @ Slow Cooker Central August 4, 2022

I also find some sausages way saltier than others too 🙂
Try a different brand next time
Or butcher sausages are much better for this too

  45. I also found it far too salty and ended up throwing out what was left and couldn’t eat mine same with hubby and I love salt but didn’t enjoy this

  46. Jodie McPherson August 7, 2022

We really enjoyed this recipe, definitely will be making again!
I did substitute the cream of mushroom for cream of chicken (because I realised too late I didn’t have it ?). Was a little salty, but I put that down to quite a few salty ingredients plus the cream of chicken (next time I might only put one tbl spoon of Worcestershire sauce ?)
Enjoyed with veggies and mashed spud.
Thanks for another great recipe !

one of my all time favourite recipe bases. Good will all meats. Well, I haven’t tried it with fish…

  48. 5 stars
This is 1 of my absolute fave sausage recipes!!! I cooked it for dinner tonight n I don’t know y ????? but it tasted better than ever, I served it on top of potato ? n sweet potato ? mash ? I used my 3 litre sc n only used an 8 pk of thin bbq beef sausages from Coles this time!!! I always boil them 1st, cover with water n add a good splash of brown vinegar which helps absorb the fat, remove skin n cut into bite sized pieces, absolutely delicious, love it ?? highly recommend ???

  49. Rebecca Mitchell April 6, 2023

I absolutely LOVE this recipe & would love to make for my parents however my mum is highly allergic to mushrooms & can’t have mushroom soup. Is there another variety you can add instead of mushrooms?

    1. Paulene @ Slow Cooker Central April 9, 2023

      Hi Rebecca,
You could use cream of chicken soup instead 🙂

  50. 5 stars
I made this for dinner and had with air fried veg. Sooo good and I am another mushroom hater, could not taste mushroom. will be a regular now.

  51. 5 stars
I made this for dinner for something different
It was absolutely delicious, I added some sliced mushrooms and peas in the last hour of cooking
Will definitely be making this again.

  52. Richard Thompson September 2, 2023

Very tasty recipe. I am lazy and usually add vegetables into the recipe for a complete meal: 3 diced potatoes; 3 sliced carrots and in last half hour add one cup frozen peas and one cup frozen corn- when I add potatoes and/or carrots, I usually cook on low for 7 hours.

  53. Kristi Fuller October 6, 2023

    5 stars
Absolutely delicious. I knew it would be! The obsession sauce is the bomb and literally goes well with anything! Good when being budget conscious but still want a hearty, yummy meal. would usually serve with mash but my potatoes weren’t the best so had with rice. still so good.
Used 12 thin sausages cut into four’s.

  54. David Slade June 24, 2024

I’m going to try a hamburger obsession. Would this be roughly the same cook time as the sausage one. Thanks.

    1. Paulene @ Slow Cooker Central June 24, 2024

If you mean mince/ground beef then I give that around 4-5hrs low
If by hamburger you mean like rissoles/mince patties I’d give them around the same time

  55. first time making this i had a few fresh mushrooms so cut them up put them in with peas and corn my family loved it will make again looks like a family family favourite on the list lol

  56. Chris Galvin June 26, 2026

    Sausage Obsession
    Absolutely delicious!
    I made a few changes.
I had no onion soup mix. Reduced the amount of sausages. Still had lots of gravy. Which I thinned a bit. Due to the strong flavour. I then needed to thicken it some.
    It still made heaps.
    🙏🌹😘🤗😋😋😋

  57. 5 stars
    Sausage Obsession!
    I am obsessed!
Made as recipe states, although I added a couple of more shakes of mint sauce from the bottle.
I already love Lamb Obsession, so I had high expectations for this recipe. And it delivered.
Tasty & saucy. A winner with mashed potato and veges.
Everyone in the family loved it.
