Chip Shop Curry Sausages
A creamy, lush slow cooked curried sausage using the McDonnells curry sauce base.
Equipment
- 3.5L slow cooker
Ingredients
- 125 grams McDonnells curry sauce (see NOTE below)
- 8 sausages
- 1 onion, sliced
- 1 cup frozen peas
- 1 cup thin carrot strips (OPTIONAL add in)
- 300 ml cooking cream (see NOTE below)
- 200 ml water (see NOTE below)
Instructions
- Snip raw sausages into bite sized pieces with scissors and add to the slow cooker
- Add onion slices and peas (and carrot if using carrot)
- Combine cooking cream and water and curry powder (Note the amount to be used in this recipe is HALF A TUB – not full tub). Once mixed, add to slow cooker
- Cook on low for 4hrs with TEA TOWEL TRICK in place
- Serve with creamy potato mash or rice
- Note: You can find the red McDonnell's curry sauce tub from the International Food section in the aisles of COLES or WOOLWORTHS.
- Note: Cooking cream is a cream that resists splitting when heated. More info on that HERE. If you do not have specific cooking cream then use regular cream but add 1-2 tsps of cornflour to it first to also prevent splitting.
- Note: If you want it less hot/spicy and creamier the water can be replaced partially or in full with extra cooking cream also to further decrease the heat 🙂
- Other recipes that make use of hot chickens or leftover chicken can be found HERE
- Check out our other version of this recipe that uses a hot cooked rotisserie style chicken here instead HERE

The lovers of curried sausages gave this the thumbs up last night. Super easy to make and super tasty.
Do you think this could be done for 2 hours on high? Perhaps by frying the sausages first
Yep you could try 2-2.5hrs I’d guess Tahlia if pre browned first 🙂
I would love to know if this recipe would be freezable please?
I am the only one in my household who would be eating it, and I’m super keen to try!
I haven’t tried to freeze this one yet myself as we always eat every last litle bit hahaha
But I don’t see a reason why it couldn’t be??
If you try some would you let us know here in a comment for others too who will want to know Liz please 🙂
Yum yum yum!!! Soooo good, especially in the rainy weather. This will be on the rotation for sure ☺️
Hooray!! So happy you loved it too Liz 🙂
Something I would cook again and again! Was a winner in our house with some boiled spuds but would work with anything!
Hooray! So pleased you enjoyed it 🙂
Yes great recipe, crusty bread 🥖 would be great too mop up the gravy, 👍
That’s great to hear Catherine! So happy you enjoyed it 🙂
Loved every mouthful, cooked on low for 5h. Used pork Chipotle sausages (cut) 2x packs. 2x cooking creams, 1x grated carrot 🥕. No water added. Served with mashed potatoes
So pleased you loved it too Tracey!
First time cooking this one today – boy that curry has some bang! Love it. Will definately do again, and will try with chicken too!
You’ll love it with chicken too then! 🙂
made this last night so beautiful hubby loved it, will be making it again soon,
Thanks for taking the time to leave your fab 5-star review Vicki! 🙂
Was really nice but found a little too creamy for me, will do less cream more water next time and add some raisins and make a bit fruity.
Thanks Diane for taking the time to come back and leave your feedback! Sounds like you got some great variations to try next time too 🙂
In a word… delicious! Thanks so much for another great recipe, will definitely be making this again.
That’s some great feedback! Thanks Jenny 🙂 🙂
Excellent flavours with an easy recipe. I added an extra onion and used extra peas without the carrot. Served with rice…had to search several stores to find the McDonnells Curry Powder but was well worth it. Will use the other half of the tin of curry with a rotisserie chicken.
Thanks so much for your great review Richard! I’ve been waiting to see how what you thought 🙂
I made this recently, and I honestly think this will be my go to curry sausage recipe. Made it for the family and everyone loved it. I went with the original recipe and switched the peas for green beans and used 12 sausages. Made enough for 2 meals for 3 adults. Served with steamed rice.
Great feedback! Thanks Amanda 🙂
i made this tonight for dinnerbut I used two chicken breasts cut into strips about the size of tenderloins. I cooked on low for just over 3 hours and I have to say, it was absolutely delicious. The curry sauce had some good bite though so I wouldn’t cook it for kids without dulling the heat a bit. It will definitely be on regular rotation in my house. also I live alone so will get 4 meals out of the three fillets. Highly recommended.
What helpful feedback on a different variation others might like to try also! Thanks Bee 🙂
YUM YUM YUM. Never been a huge fan of curried sausages but wow this is so good i have been converted. Will definitely be making this again 😋
This makes me so happy to read!! Thanks Tracy 🙂

Hooray! Love to hear you enjoyed it too Lucy 🙂
