Fluffy puff pastry scrolls with a vegemite and cheese filling! Uses ready made pastry for less fuss, less mess and tasty result guaranteed!

  • Prep: 20 mins
  • Cook: 1 hr 30 mins
  • Yields: 9 scrolls per sheet of pastry

Per 1 sheet of frozen ready made puff pastry you'll also need

2 tbsp vegemite

1 cup of grated tasty cheese

(muliply the above by however many sheets you want to make with)

Baking paper and non stick spray

1Cover bottom of slow cooker with baking paper and a LIGHT spray of non stick spray

2Lay out one sheet of frozen puff pastry on your bench to work with

3Spread with 2 tbsp of vegemite

4Cover with 1 cup of grated cheese

5(Do as many of these as you want - I found 2 sheets worth filled the bottom of my slow cooker - each sheet makes 9 small scrolls)

6By the end of this process the pastry should be soft enough to work with

7Starting from one end of the pastry square roll up into a fairly tight log

8Take a sharp knife and cut the log into slices (approx 9 per log)

9Place the slices on the baking paper in the slow cooker

10Cook with The Tea Towel Trick

11I cooked mine in a 7L Breville

12Cook on HIGH for 1hr

13Flip them over, then cook on HIGH for a further 30mins

14Total cooking time 1hr 30mins

15I used cheap supermarket brand pastry - you don't have to spend a lot to enjoy these treats 🙂

I never preheat – though different slow cookers can vary in heat/speed so take not for this one the time yours took so you’ll know for next time 🙂

Hi Pauline, Just wondering if I should preheat the slow cooker for this recipe? I have never done that before but my scrolls took 2-1/2 hours to cook. I used my Breville 6L. Thanks.

Hi Paulene, yes I do have a Crockpot 5 litre slow cooker. Will try the scrolls in this next time! 🙂

Sorry to hear that Sandra. Do you have a real slow cooker you can try them in next time? Multi cookers can be unreliable as actual slow cookers as they are really more suited to pressure cooking :/

Unfortunately mine didn’t cook through, even after 1 and a half hours. Maybe my puff pastry was too old and had lost it’s ‘puff’. Cooked in my Crockpot multi cooker on high 😕

My 3 boys love these in their lunch boxes. They freeze well too.
