Serving: 6
Prep Time 15 minutes
Cook Time 5 hours 30 minutes
Total Time 5 hours 45 minutes
Servings 6

Ingredients

  • 12 thin beef sausages, raw
  • 1 large brown onion, sliced
  • 1 large green apple, cored & sliced (skin left on)
  • 1.5 cups water
  • 80g concentrated tomato paste
  • 1 tsp mustard powder
  • 2 T Worcestershire sauce
  • ½ tsp curry powder
  • 1 T brown sugar

Instructions

  • Add sliced onions to slow cooker and arrange sausages on top of onion, add apple slices on top of sausages
  • Combine all other ingredients and pour over
  • Cook on low for 5-6hrs
  • Serve with creamy mashed potato and steamed veg

Notes

  • If your slow cooker runs hotter the liquid may reduce so you can always double it or add an extra ½ cup of water during cooking
  • If the sauce isn’t as thick as you would like at the end it can easily be thickened by adding a slurry of 1T cornflour and 1T water and mix through and allow to thicken 15-20mins at end of cooking time

So easy, so delicious, family favorite ?

Recipe works fantastic. I add garlic, because we LOVE garlic. I also add 1tps of cornflour at the start. I think it cooks down the flour taste if added from the beginning, however, not necessary at all. Add water if too thick.

I have always made the packet mix version of this in the oven and always omitted the apple. We love it. Made this version and Slow Cooked is soooo much more. I still omitted the Apple but it’s just even more amazing. I am never making this in the oven again. Absolutely fantastic. I didn’t need to thicken at the end as it was just perfect. Can’t wait for leftovers tomorrow lunchtime. ??

I always make this in the oven using a packet mix. Never again, the flavours are amazing and the sausages are sooo tasty done this way, with this recipe. I didn’t add the apple nor did I thicken the sauce at the end as it was just perfect. Can’t wait for leftovers for lunch tomorrow.

Made this & it was absolutely delicious. It was made with all ingredients & I thought the apples really added to the flavour. Will definitely will make again.

Yum! Can’t say I’ve ever had Devilled Sausages before but know I’d never use a packet mix after tasting this! Didn’t thicken it up but could probably have done so. Used two packets of Woollies herb n garlic sausages so 16 in total so plenty of leftovers ?

I made a double batch of this for lunch today and just as well I did because my 23 yo son went back for third helpings and then had it again for dinner. I added a can of chick peas and some veg (carrot, celery, broccoli florets and diced stalk and spinach). So yummy.

Was a lovely dish. I used thicker sausages so probably should’ve doubled the sauce ingredients. I’d definitely make it again and probably thicken the sauce.
    The family enjoyed it ?

What would the cooking time be for cooking on high?

    1. Paulene @ Slow Cooker Central

Probably around 3-3.5hrs Kathryn but you’d have to watch it to be sure nothing overcooked/burnt in the sauce as it’s better on low

I really enjoyed this. I omitted the apple & brown sugar to make it low carb & subbed in 1 1/2 tsp of stevia. Lots of sauce left over!

This is now my families favourite way to make devilled sausages. I do make a few modifications to suit our family though.
    1. I swap out the tomato paste for tomato sauce. Less intense and it means we won’t end up with heart burn.
    2. I omit the apple. Hubby doesn’t like it and the sugar and tomato sauce make it sweet enough.
    3. I substitute the mustard powder for a squirt of real mustard just because that’s what we have on hand.
    4. I add 1 tbsp of cornflour towards the end of cooking to thicken the sauce just a tad.

Served with rice this is a family favourite.

You can half the cooking time on High if you’re in a rush.
