What do you mean by Make Cake Mix??

    1. Paulene @ Slow Cooker Central

Make the dry cake mix into a wet cake batter ready to cook as per the box or pkt instructions 🙂
Then use this mix in the slow cooker recipe

  2. Elizabeth

Do you need tea towel under the lid for this?

  3. Caitlyn

do you need baking paper under the cake in the cooker?

    1. Paulene @ Slow Cooker Central

You can line it or greese it or use a cake tin etc
See here >> Slow Cooker Cakes

  4. Shana Hamilton

Do you need to use a tea towel for this recipe please?

  5. Kylie Stuart

Do you add the self saucing sauce in this recipe that comes with the pudding?

  6. Gay Field

What size slow cooker would you use for this one please

    1. Paulene @ Slow Cooker Central

I see some are saying they cooked it in a 1.5L
Or you could go larger like 3L etc

I couldn’t find a chocolate pudding so used a vanilla pudding instead. It came out as a 2 tone desert. When i eventually found a chocolate pudding i made it only for my kids say they prefer the vanilla pudding. I only cooked it 1 1/2 mins in a 1.5l slow cooker. This recipe is a total hit & i make it alot.

Chocolate pudding mix ?? Is that as in an Angel Delight please

  9. Angie Shields

This was absolutely amazing, all 3 of my kids loved it and there is leftovers for a couple of us tomorrow. Definitely making this again, I think I need a dessert slow cooker now lol

  10. Kylie

Can someone please tell me what the difference is between an instant pudding and a self saucing pudding?
Someone has told me not to add the sauce sachet or water so I am very confused now being I thought all pudding needed sauce =/

  11. Kylie

There are a few people asking the same question that I did in regards to the pudding.
Paulene confirmed with me that it is an instant pudding not a self sauce pudding and I found what she was talking about in the dessert isle near the jellies and mousses.
It is a milk base dessert that would normally set like a custard… hope this helps somebody 🙂

Wow this recipe is absolutely amazing Jaclyn Wark. Easy to prepare and so yummy served with ice cream on a cold night. Rated 10/10 by our household 🙂

  13. Hayley Seamons

Should the lava cake be gooey or runny. Opinions please

  14. Michelle

Im using a 3ltr slow cooker with a lid no tea towel

This was a disaster. I cooked it in my new Aldi 3 ltr. After 2.5 hours it was still not cooked. It was just like the sauce in a self saucing pudding, very little cake bits. I cooked it exactly as recipe states.

    1. Paulene @ Slow Cooker Central

I’ve reviewed those Aldi 3L cookers on our review page and they are notoriously slow as I’ve reviewed. You’d need extra time in that cooker than normal recipe times state 🙂

  16. Mary Dawn

Can you double the mixture as I have a 5L slower cooker and I would be feeding 9 people?
Does the cooking time need to change?

  17. Christina Buckley

Just made this today. Should have cut the mars bars up thicker but still tastes good x

  18. Monique Stone

Made this last night. It tasted awesome. Next time I will use a bigger slow cooker though. My baby slow cooker (1.5lt) was not big enough to contain the chocolate ‘lava’…

  19. Lorraine

Do you put cake mix in a tin or straight into slow cooker . Thanks

    1. Paulene @ Slow Cooker Central

      Straight in 🙂

  20. Kim

Absolutely easy to make and yummy to eat!

  21. Heidi Jones

We made this on Monday. It was absolutely fantastic. My whole family loved it.

OMG this is the most delicious and creamy potato bake I’ve ever made . this will be a weekly new side dish in our house with everyone loving it . I did double the chorizo and bacon and added some spring onion to it but the flavour was incredible.

    1. Paulene @ Slow Cooker Central

Jess you’ve left this on the wrong recipe 🙂 If you want to re add it to the chorizo potato bake for me I can delete this one then x

  23. Amanda Young

Made a vanilla one with chocolate mousse with choc pieces done in my 5 litre sc cook for 2 hours on high turned out beautiful…

  24. Lynette

Will this fit in a 1.5ltr slow cooker or is it best to do it in larger one?
    Thanks

    1. Paulene @ Slow Cooker Central

Other comments below suggest it will overflow in a 1.5L so best to go larger 🙂

  25. Laura

Was pretty yummy!! And easy to make, tho mine took close to 3 hrs on high in my slow cooker and i used vanilla instant pudding, think id prefere chocolate next time…. overall pretty good!! 🙂

  26. Susan

Made this lastnite but couldnt get cottees instant pudding mix so i used the areoplane desert mix. Was beautiful. Thanks

  27. Pettienne

Lots of people asking about tea towel method. For this recipe. It’s not in the recipe. But I would imagine it might get soggy without it ?

    1. Paulene @ Slow Cooker Central

When it’s not listed in recipe it’s not meant to be used 🙂

  28. Flynne

I made this a week ago, beautiful. I used aeroplane chocolate dessert mix. Cooked in 5l slow cooker 2 hours on high. Spot on. ?

  29. Narelle

I can’t get the instant pudding in my town. HELP….. What can I do in replacement?

  30. Michele

My 5 year old son and I are going to make this Sunday for hubby for Father’s Day / night desert. Son is so excited. Going to be cooking in my breville 3×2.5litre slow cooker how long should I increase the cooking time for please. As I have cooked cakes in the 6 litre one before and they have had a bit of crispy edges with a slight burnt taste so tried again on. lower heat and didn’t cook properly on the inside. Thank you in advance.

  31. Milissa

Hi, I am going to try this tomorrow, just wanted to know, Do you have to serve it as soon as it has finished cooking?

    1. Paulene @ Slow Cooker Central

That would be ideal yep 🙂

  32. Kim

Hi is the choc pudding mix just angel delight?

    1. Paulene @ Slow Cooker Central

Is that what an instant pudding mix is called where you are? Not sure of your brands 🙂

  33. Sue

Is it Angel’s delight people use ????

  34. Kimberly Brunet

Do you use a small box of pudding mix or the large one?

  35. Dianne

This recipe gets a 10 /10 rating for me. It was soo easy to make and absolutely delicious. My family loved it. Will definitely make it again. Just as nice warmed up the next day with ice cream. Yum yum yum. ?????????

  36. Dianne

I used a 1.5 ltre S C and it was big enough. and cooked in 2hrs

  37. Maz

I finally got round to making this last night after having bought the ingredients a while ago. Delicious and everyone loved it, I served it with vanilla ice cream. Easy to make too, I used a Betty Crocker Devils Food cake mix and Gregg’s Instant Dessert with Chocolate Chips, followed the packet instructions for both. I also used 4 Mars Bars :-), cooked in my 3L SC for 2 hours on high. I would make this again for sure.

  38. Belinda Rodoreda

    Absolutely mouth watering delicious!!
So easy, the kid’s loved helping and watching it form into a yummy gooey desert.

  39. Gabrielle

I made this using snickers instead of Mars bars and ohhhhh yummm. I served with fresh whipped cream and it was delicious. Will certainly make again.

  40. Melinda Falla

    5 stars
First time trying turned out fabulous, used vanilla instant pudding as they didn’t have any chocolate cooked in 3.5L cooker for 3.5 hours and turned to warm setting until ready to eat, well worth trying

    5 stars
    Oh my word! Yum!
I used a woolies homebrand chocolate cake mix and an aeroplane chocolate mousse dessert mix.
I lined my 6L slow cooker with baking paper.
Cooked to perfection, decadent, but not sickly sweet. We served it with custard.
Definitely a treat that is so easy to make.

    1. Paulene @ Slow Cooker Central

Thanks so much for taking the time to leave your detailed feedback Martinah. That’s so useful for others! And I’m so pleased you enjoyed it 🙂
