Barbecue Pork Spare Ribs

No ratings yet
Prep Time 10 minutes
Cook Time 6 hours
Total Time 6 hours 10 minutes

Ingredients

  • 500grams of pork spare ribs
  • 1 x bottle of your favourite shop bought sauce or home made using Ketchup, Worcestershire Sauce, Olive Oil and brown or Demerara Sugar
  • 2x tsps of pork or beef gravy granules or 2x stock cubes of either one
  • 1x tsp black peppercorns
  • 1x tsp Coriander seeds
  • Dry chillies if required

Instructions

  • Buy ribs on a rack if possible and cut into pieces of 4 or 5 ribs (I marinade in the fridge for 24 hours though probably not essential)
  • Place all the ingredients into the Slow Cooker (holding some Bbq sauce back for basting later) cover with water and cook on low for 4-6 hours
  • Heat oven, grill or bbq and remove ribs from the slow cooker patting gently dry
  • Cover ribs with the remaining sauce and cook for a further 15/20 minutes on your method of choice just to crisp them up a bit.

Notes

  • I originally cooked the ribs in the slow cooker for 8 hours on low but they literally fell apart when removing them . You may want to 'tweak' the cooking time to reflect your own tastes

Re the sauce…I make a recipe similar to this and I have equal quantities of all the sauce ingredients…usually 1/4 cup of each as only two in the household.

You don’t need to add any water
Just as recipe states is all you need 🙂

Would like to know the ratios of a home made sauce please

Made these with Baby Ray’s Hickory and Brown Sugar Sauce, and used pork rashers instead of ribs. While the sauce was not to my liking, hubby loved it. Pork nice and tender. Will definitely make again, using other sauce combinations.

Made this tonight and the fussy family gave it the thumbs up, served with rice and steamed vegetables… thanks for the recipe!

Just confirming, we cover the whole marinade ribs with water?

I personally don’t add water to my ribs but yes that it what Netty has said for her recipe 🙂

I’ve always added a small tin of pineapple chunks. Adds a tangy bite to it without being spicy.
