For such a simple way of doing this silverside – The flavour was magnificent.
I had read on the facebook page slow cooker recipes for the family (SCC)about this way and decided to try it, so glad I did, the flavour just explodes and the meat is so tender..
Recommend this way for sure a rare mark from me of 10/10.
Does it stay very salty done this way? thanks in advance!
So easy. Did it taste better than when it’s cooked in a bottle of ginger ale or beer ?
Terrible. Dry, dry, dry!
Was hesitant to try this recipe but did so upon the previous reviews.
Not happy at all. About to order pizza!
Amazing, tender and delicious
So simple. Tastes delicious. The only way I now cook silverside. Perfect every time!
Have done this a few times now. Delicious. So soft and tender and juicy. Flavour just explodes.
This is the easiest, yummiest way to cook silverside. The only way I do it now.
I’ve just put my corned silverside in the slow cooker. It took me 5 minutes to rinse it and wrap it in foil. I know that it’ll be perfect in 7 hours time – it always is Thanks so much for sharing this recipe.
Never been able to do a melt in the mouth beef joint .. until I tried this 10/10 every time , 2 off my favourite things combined beef and slow cooker ! Iv used other cuts of beef joints works well with them all !! Thankyou
What a fabulous way to cook silverside! I am a convert!
Extremely juicy, no mess, so tender.
Give this a try, you won’t be disappointed.
My husband opinion is that this is the best silverside that he has ever tasted, so soft, beautiful and tender, easy to carve, this will be the way I will be cooking my silverside in the future
Can you please tell me if you placed ‘the parcel’ on the bottom of the slow cooker, or did you raise it a little ie: balls of foil, egg rings, etc? Many thanks.
It’s usually placed directly on bottom of slow cooker by most folks 🙂
Do the veggies get cooked in there at the same time?
In the foil it’s only the silverside 🙂
Tried this for the first time, and will not cook Silverside any other way from now on. I did cook for 7 hrs as my piece of meat was 2.2kgs. Thank you so much for this recipe.
first time trying in foil and I was sceptical.
was very yummy though and a fussy 2 year old ate it, as did my partner who “hates” silverside. was a win and something I’ll make again. very easy, minimal mess.
Highly recommend
I was a bit sceptical at first when I read this, but gave it a try. Loved it
I had it last night for dinner and next time I will cook it for 7hrs instead of 6 my son liked it the way it came out but I prefer it to be more tender than it was . Will definately do it again
My piece of silverside is 3 kgs do I cook for longer ?
For one around 3kg Donna I would do approx 9-10hrs low 🙂
Highly recommended, this method is so deliciously moist and the flavor next level. Definitely will be cooking again ?
Best silverside I have ever cooked. Nice and easy is a real bonus!
Cooked this for the first time and it was absolutely delicious! I’m not the most confident cook but this was easy and hubby loved it too ! It will now be the only way I make silverside.. yummo! Thank you Pauline for all of your amazing recipes ???
This one isn’t my creation Sandra, Katrina shared this one, but it’s been very popular! So happy you loved it too :):)
Sorry but this one wasn’t a winner for us. 🙁
The meat was tough and chewy.
I do wonder about the meat quality though and think that may not have helped.
Will revert back to my usual way of cooking from now on.
This was an absolute winner.
I cooked this last night ( Sunday dinner), for my dad who has recently moved in with us after my mum passed away in April. It is his all time favourite.
I have never ever made this before, as it always seemed a bit complicated.
However after reading all the reviews over the last few weeks, for the recipe that just requires wrapping in paper and then foil, I thought even I can do that.
And I bloody well did! And it was superb – maybe even as good as mums.
Thank you so very much for this recipe, you have made both my dad and I, very happy.
I wouldn’t cook silverside any other way now!!!
I was sceptical about using this method but it was tender, moist and very flavoursome ….
Resist the temptation to add anything, you won’t be disappointed!
I did this last night and it was honestly the BEST silverside I have ever had, will never cook it any other way from now on.
I do this recipe all the time now. Beautiful and moist. I add a few cloves before wrapping.
So jumped on the wagon and did this tonight, so impressed with the flavour will definitely cook this way again. I did add a splash of water into the bottom of slow cooker, just to be sure of no cracking.
WOW I’ll never cook corned silverside any other way after using this method. The meat was juicy, moist, tender and full of flavour. not salty at all. I shared the slowcooker with foil wrapped jacket potatoes cooked at the same time (removing the meat after 5.5 hours and left the spuds for a further 1.5 hours). I made mustard sauce in my 1.5 litre slowcooker. Served with broccoli and carrots. So easy and time efficient.
I’ve been trying to perfect the silverside for a while now. The traditional way just wasn’t working for me so thought I would try this out.
Oh my, it was delicious, so tender an flavoursome.
I purchased a 1.4 kg corned silverside from Aldi. Rinsed as per the direction. My piece didn’t have a lot of fat. I’d read a comment that someone’s tasted fatty. I was tempted to cut off the little fat it had but ended up leaving it on. Wrapped in baking paper and doubled wrapped in foil (different directions). Put in my Breville Searing slow cooker (which seems to be on the cooler side) on low and cooked for 9.5 hours.
It turned out perfect.
Highly recommended giving this a go.
So easy to do!I was amazed at the amount of liquid it produced. Will definately do it again.
I took the plunge today n tried this for the 1st time n ??? ? it turned out absolutely ???????, it was sooo tender n juicy ? very impressive n I’ll definitely be cooking it this way again, thank you for sharing your delicious n simple recipe with us Katrina ? ????
Cooked my silverside this way for the first time today & was so impressed. I was sceptical cause I’ve always cooked in water or liquid but I’m converted. The best I’ve ever cooked, will be using this method from here on in. Thank you for the recipe ?
I cooked a 1kg piece of silverside using this method. I cooked on low for 4hours. The meat was lovely but my 1kg became 500gm after cooking. It shrank so much. Don’t know if I did something wrong or if it was just the meat I had bought. It tasted fine and was cooked beautifully. Any ideas?
It is very typical for meat to shrink when cooked 🙂
The silverside was the best I have had and even my husband said the same. So easy to prepare and cook and I will definitely be cooking it this way again too. 100% recommend trying this method.
Have since cooked a Lamb and Goat Roast this way, and both turned out great. Hubby loved the Lamb cooked this way, and the Goat turned out lovely too. Will definitely cook this way from now on. Thanks again for sharing.
That’s great to know Colleen – thanks!
I have now made this in my 1.5L slow cooker 3 times and it is amazing! Such an easy way to cook corned silverside. Thank you Paulene and Co.
Best silverside ever!!
Normally do the honey mustard from scratch, which is also yummy. This is great, have done twice and both times, tender and tasty.
Tried the baking paper and foil method for my silverside! 7hrs low…. I have never had a silverside turn out so tender and moist…. Full of flavour…. Fight the urge to want to add liquid etc…. It cooks in it’s own juices… 10/10
Perfect. Sliced really well and tasted great.
The rumours are true. This method is a winner-winner silverside dinner!
I was eager to try this after seeing it in the FB group. My husband usually cooks this dish and I think he was skeptical when I told him I was cooking it in foil and nothing else, but we were both blown away. We will only be cooking it this way from now on.
Out of this world absolutely yummy.I have cooked Silverside twice now using this method.
Very tender Silver side just melts in your mouth .
Hubby is impressed , winning ?
First time trying this method and I’m really impressed! Having with mustard cheese sauce which I make all the time. It’s going to be a fabulous dinner. Thank you
Simple and easy with fantastic results. This is the only way I will ever do this again and definitely be a regular on the list. Was so moist and flavourful.
is this def 6 hours on low as some of comments say high
If you like chewing on leather, this will be perfect.
Personally, I do not. The chewiest piece of silverside I’ve ever eaten and the only chewy piece I have ever tried out of a slow cooker. Taste was still great but unfortunately 99% of it was just inedible due to the texture. Even the kids who adore silverside and would eat anything wouldn’t have more than a few bites!
Have cooked Pickled Pork this way now, and it turned out great, so moist and tender. Beef is next. Again thanks for sharing!
mine turned out great . And so simple
It was delicious and my husband was impressed as he had little cleaning up to do.
Everyone loved it 🙂
Cooked this for first time – overcooked but great taste! Only one problem – as I lifted foil wrapped package onto board all liquid inside come out – very hot and burnt skin – will be careful next time.
I was a bit nervous cooking the silverside this way as I honestly thought that it would be very salty and dry. Well, I was pleasantly surprised that it wasn’t! Such a simple and easy way to cook it and it was soooo tender and delicious. I highly recommend cooking a piece of silverside this way and would definitely do it again and again ?.
Tried this method for the win!!
Delicious, moist and tender. Future silversides will be cooked this way from now on.
I was very sceptical about this way of cooking Silverside BUT it was absolutely delicious. It’s the only way I will cook this in future. There were clean plates all round and enough for tonights dinner too – so we could enjoy it again. I paired it with mashed potato and sweet potato, broccoli, beans and a mustard white sauce OMG!!!
I have made this several times now and it is always absolutely tender and delicious. Even my 93 year old Dad cooks his silverside this way. If you haven’t tried it, give it a go.
What great feedback thanks Kristine – and go Dad!! 🙂
I found mine turned out juicy but very salty despite washing it.
BOOM! This silverside is “The Bomb”.
Yet again, this recipe delivers.
Hubby made ours this weekend, nailed it!
Juicy, Tender, Easy to Slice.
Yum.
I’ll admit, I’m not a big Silverside fan but I wrapped a 1.5kg one in foil and cooked it on low for 6.5 hours. It came out tender and I got compliments from all the people at dinner including Miss 5. We served it with beef gravy rather than the traditional white sauce and it was a great combination.
Made this yesterday for the first time using this method.I had 1.2kg piece of silverside and I followed directions as per recipe but I added 3 chopped carrots and put them on the bottom added a small amount of water with vinegar added (probably about 1/4 cup ) then sat the wrapped silverside on top, cooked on low 5 hours, let rest for 1/2 hour then sliced so easy to carve, a definite winner
I was so excited to try this method and other half even complimented the slab of silverside I had chosen. Followed directions to a T and had the worst piece of tough chewy not even moist meat EVER. So disappointed after all the lovely reviews. Back to tried and true traditional method in the slow cooker with water, malt vinegar, brown sugar, cloves, garlic cloves with onions and carrots in the slow cooker.
Looked forward to trying this after all the rave reviews. Followed the instructions to the letter and ended up with meat , that while edible with white sauce, that was much dryer than my past way of cooking. Not a hit with hubby so will go back to the tried and tested methods.
I have a piece just under a kilo should I cook for 4 hours or 6 on low .
6hrs 🙂
So easy and turns out beautiful every time
Very tasty and just melts in your mouth
Decided to give this method a go and so glad I did. Came out so flavourful and tender. I won’t be cooking it any other way. It’s a 2 thumbs up from me !!!!
HI
Tried this tonight…Hubby and I love Silverside. It turned out a bit dry and I was disappointed after reading
all the great reviews. Is it possible that I overcooked or are some cuts better than others. This is not meant to be a
bad review….I would just like some feedback.
Made this for the first time ever and it was so good. Was so tender and moist. Will definitely make again.👍
It was the tastiest and moist tender Silverside I’ve ever eaten. Game Changer
I got my instructions from Instagram. They said, wrap in foil and cook on high for 6 hours. It was a small piece so I did that for 4 hours. It turned out tough:((( I googled, what am I doing wrong and found this site. Would it have been tender if I set the slow cooker to low? ??
In the past I’ve also boiled and it’s been hit or miss. I think small pieces must be harder to keep tender than larger cuts. I’d love to know if that’s an issue?
Yes Vicki it should cook on low 🙂
Unfortunately many copy our recipes but get them wrong
Glad you’ve found us now!
Want to try this but could not get a big piece of silverside, so have two pieces which are similar size – a 1.4 and 1.5kg.
If i cook them at the same time should I wrap them together or individually please? Also still 7 hours on low or longer please? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.
I would suggest wrapping individual 🙂
Time should remain similar
Well I followed the instructions exactly, the meat was tender and nicely cooked, but even though I rinsed it well, it was still too salty. Back to vinegar and water next time…
First time sc this one today. Hubby and I found it too salty even though I rinsed it well. Like suggested by others. So I will go back to my original recipe.
Thanks 🙏 Jenny P
I’ve cooked silverside in the slow cooker for many years now but in water and mustard powder. I hated the clean up as I had to fill the slow cooker bowl with hot water and let it soak. I then saw posts on the Facebook page about wrapping it in baking paper and foil so I decided to give it a try. It was so amazingly tender and sliced beautifully. I then saw some comments about just using the foil. I decided to try that because I found that with baking paper and foil it didn’t seal well and left a mess in my slow cooker so I was back to where I had been with having to soak the bowl etc. Today I am cooking a bigger piece than I usually do (2.1kgs instead of 1.5kgs) I’ve had to crack out my big 6L Russell Hobbs. I usually use my smaller red Russell Hobbs one. I’m sure it will be just as amazing as always. I just wish making the white sauce was that easy!
I agree that the meat is super tender and it’s a much less messy way to cook it but if I were to try it again I would add the usual condiments to it as I found the flavour was very bland.
First time cooking it this way today & we loved it. Will definitely will do it again this way. Only a tiny bit of juice came out. 👍🙏
Wow This was very yummy. We loved it. Will definitely be making again Yummmy 🙏👍😋
Another successful dinner. I never cook my silverside any other way since discovering this method!
This is the best, hassle free, set – leave it.
Focus on side dishes. Awesome 👌.
The best kind Alby 🙂
Oh my goodness I will never cook corned beef any other way again! The meat was so tender, moist and tasty! My husband was amazed and said it was delicious and definitely cook it again. He couldn’t believe I added nothing but the paper and alfoil’. This will definitely go on rotation in our house for sure!!
Great feedback – thanks Helen! 🙂
Tried doing silverside in the baking paper and alfoil was absolutely delicious will never go back to cooking in water again and very little mess in the cooker
That’s great Jim – another convert to this very popular method 🙂
omg amazing so tender so delicious.
I had a 2.5 kg i could have cut it with a spoon!
my recent attempts the “traditional” way have failed me so badly I was about to give up on silverside
So pleased you loved it Ness and that you didn’t give up on finding one that was best for you! 🙂
First time ever making silverside and this was amazing so juicy and full of flavour big win in my whole family thank you for your recipe
Hooray! So happy you enjoyed it too Samantha 🙂
Best method for cooking silverside.
It was so delicious and it sliced like a dream. No crumbling meat like when cooked in water.
You just want to go back for an extra slice, over & over. Yum.
Thanks for taking the time to leave your feedback Martinah! And the fab 5 star rating 🙂
I’m interested in trying this method, does it matter if the”join” side is up or down? If down, do the juice run out? Thanks for any advice!
I’d just pop it fold side up then you don’t really have to worry 🙂
Absolutely love this, so easy and so very tasty
That’s so great to hear!
Thanks Tracey 🙂
Im going to try this way to cook silverside, my piece is only 750gms. should I halve the cooking time to 3 hrs?
No I would still keep it at 6hrs for tender results
Another fantastic recipe. Have cooked this several times now, never fails. I do put water in my ceramic slow cooker so doesn’t crack, but sit the meat in foil on a tray above the water.
Thanks so much for leaving your great 5 star feedback Michelle 🙂
awesome.tried this method a couple of days ago. wifey does not really like beef & will only reluctantly try Silverside. got a joint from local butchers. 1/2 kilo. put it in foil with onions. rubbed with small amount of chilly oil. Tumeric & ground black pepper. put it on low heat in a 1.5 ltr slow cooker for just over 7 hrs what a difference. the joint just fell to pieces. wifey eat all she said it was the most tenderest joint of beef shes ever had. i am blown away. i will not use a gas/electric cooker again to cook beef. thank you for the recipe & ease of doing it.
This is such wonderful feedback to hear! Thanks Ian for taking the time to leave yours – so glad you enjoyed it 🙂
only way I cook it now
So pleased you are enjoying it Debra! 🙂
Hello,
My silverside is 1.8 kg…should I cook for 6 or 7 hours on low?
Thank you!!
Give it 7 it won’t hurt 🙂
Didn’t believe all the hype, but after a couple of hit and miss Silversides, I thought I’d give it a go. I was concerned my $42 piece of Our Cow Silverside would turn out dry and inedible, but I went ahead anyway. My 1.860kg piece was put on low for 6.5 hours, when I unwrapped it, gotta say thought it looked horrible all grey on top, once I cut that part away was left with a healthy looking pink meat. Probably should’ve let it sit for a bit but was anxious to taste it, so I cut it all up, and was very surprised by how moist it was. We had it last night with Mash, carrot and broccolini was very nice, my husband said it was lovely. Will cook it again with this method, next time will take some photos.
I love reading feedback like this! Fantastic that it surprised you in the best way 🙂
