Prep Time 5 minutes
Cook Time 2 hours
Total Time 2 hours 5 minutes

Ingredients

  • 1 onion, diced
  • 500g beef mince
  • 1 tablespoon cornflour
  • 3/4 cup Beef stock
  • 3/4 cup tomato sauce
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon BBQ sauce
  • 1 teaspoon vegemite

Instructions

  • You can brown your mince first which will reduce the overall cook time of your filling.
  • 1. Throw the onion and mince into the slow cooker. Mix cornflour with 1 tablespoon of stock to form a paste.
  • 2. Add all remaining stock, vegemite and sauces to the mix and mix throughly. Once completely mixed through, add the cornflour mixture, this will help to thicken the sauce as it cooks.
  • 3. If you browned your mince then cooking time will be roughly 2-3 hours on high. If you didn't vrown your mince then 3-5 hours on high (this will ask depend on your slow cooker).
  • Once cooked you can make into pies, using a pie maker or pie dish in the oven. It can also be frozen for future use.

  1. Delicious and so close to a bakery pie as you’d get! Kids rated in 9.5/10. Made 5 pies in the Sunbeam Pie Maker.

Made this last night. Was amazing. I didnt have any Vegemite left but even without it it was a winner! Made one family size pie.

  3. I found the amount of tomato sauce too strong and over sweetened this, otherwise it was a good result. Would try again with a couple tablespoons instead.

  4. This recipe was amazing. I swapped the tomato sauce for 1-2 tablespoons of tomato paste – delicious!!

  5. 5 stars
These are delicious! I didn’t add any BBQ sauce but otherwise cooked as per recipe. Didn’t brown mince and worked great. Made 10 pies in the Kmart pie maker. I used shortcrust for base of pies and puff on top.
My fussy kids even ate these. Winner! Better than most bakery pies around!

  6. Great recipe.
Served with a side of pasta and vegetables.
I was able to make 6 pies in the pie maker.
