Nice and easy recipe however I felt it had a strange taste. Could be from my new slow cooker or the top n fill… 🙂
Alternative : 1 cup rice, 1 Lt milk, 1 can caramel,1/2 teaspoon salt.
Made this today and My oh My will definitly be making it again , it took 2-1/2 hours in my slow cooker but was cooked perfectly 🙂
Made this recipe 3 times. Thought must have made a mistake on first time, but not my mistake after 2nd & 3rd times. All 3 times I used 1 Caramel Top & Full can & followed recipe. Each time, when slow cooked to time stated, the fluids were extremely runny & the rice half cooked & still hard. First attempt was placed in fridge at end of stated time, with hope the rice would absorb the runny liquid – but didn’t – got tossed out. 2nd time making it I extended time to 4.5 hours on high but had to leave lid off for last 40 mins to reduce liquid, but did thicken more in fridge overnight, but rice still not fully cooked (go figure) & I was the only one that would eat it out of three folks here. 3rd time determined to win, I made as to recipe but added extra cup of recipe – still runny & hard rice again after left overnight in fridge – so next onto stove in big saucepan & stirred on low for 15 minutes > rice was cooked & liquid thickened. Lesson learned to NEVER EVER use slow cooker for it but still use same ingredients on the stove top, though probably more like 20-25 mins stirring on low, without partial cooking for hours in slow cooker.
Do I heat the condensed milk first to turn it to caramelised or do I just add the milk to the other ingredients and the cooking process achieves the caramelisation? Thank you
The recipe is for 1 can of caramel
Not one can of condensed milk
So it’s already caramel (not milk)
You can buy a can of ready made caramel (not as nice) or use a slow cooker to turn your milk into caramel (HERE)
But the recipe starts with caramel.
