Porridge ~ Fast and Easy in the 1.5L ~
Serving: 2
Ingredients
- 1 cup quick cook oats
- 2 cups milk (or your preferred non dairy milk substitute)
- 1 cup hot water
- Pinch salt
- 3-4 large, fresh medjool dates, pit removed and diced
- ½ tsp cinnamon
Toppings options
- Honey, banana, berries or other fruit of choice, dollop of coconut yoghurt or some nuts. The options are endless
Instructions
- Place all ingredients (except topping options) in 1.5L slow cooker
- Cook on HIGH for approx. 70 minutes
- As cookers can vary in heat keep an eye on yours to ensure it stays moist enough and doesn’t dry out or overcook. Remember too if you use a larger cooker it will be emptier and therefor cook faster too
- Serve into plates and drizzle with honey and fruit/nuts/yoghurt/topping of your choice

This is so easy and fuss free, we easily do it 4 or 5 times a week for breakfast/brunch/lazy Sunday night 🙂
We have also done a double batch in the Westinghouse 3.5L searing sc which only takes slightly longer.
We don’t use the dates though
I’ve made this with and without the dates and the result is still the same. Yummy.
Can you set it to cook overnight?
No. This recipe cooks in 70mins. If you search the word porridge on our website though you’ll see some overnight ones 🙂
So creamy, so delicious, best porridge ever.
The best breakfast ever. I can’t wait to have it each morning. So delicious, full of flavour and it reheats well with the addition of extra milk. You really must try this, so easy to do, only 5 mins of your time and 70 minutes later or you make it the night before and breakfast is ready to serve with your favourite toppings ???????
does it have to be the quick oats??
Yes that’s what I used for these times to be accurate 🙂
There are other porridge recipes you may also like to view on our site too which may use other oats – just search the word porridge to see them 🙂
Thank you, Paulene, for this fantastic, yummy porridge recipe. It’s sooo tasty, quick and easy to make. Don’t have to stand over a pot and stir a great bonus I will definitely be making this again.
Hi Paulene
what can I put in this to replace the dates please?
You could add some other dried fruits that you may like more 🙂
Made this for myself and hubby and we both loved it. Beautiful flavour & texture.
My favourite porridge, i quite often use sultanas instead of dates and add a dash of honey on serving. My 1.5 litre is spot on with the 70 minute cook time.
Such a fantastic recipe. I followed it exactly and I kept a close eye on it. It did need about 20 minutes of extra cooking but so worth it. It’s incredibly delicious 😋 and filling and I will definitely be making this again. Thanks again for such a fantastic recipe 😋😃😋
Just made for breakfast 😋
Scrumptious when there’s time this will be the only way I cook it now. I added a splash of vanilla and added dates to serve with natural yoghurt delicious
Love to read feedback like this! Thanks Ally 🙂
