This was amazing! Everyone in the house loved it. In fact they want it for dinner tomorrow night again. Thank you for sharing

  4. I was a little unsure with this as I can’t stand onion and I felt it asked for a lot of it, I still went ahead and tried it. I am so glad I did hubby had seconds my kids loved it and I am really surprised I did as well. A huge thumbs up this is definitely a recipe I will cook again.

Thank you for a little lovely and easy recipe.

  5. Loved this, the only thing I changed was thicken with some gravox as I had no cornflour. Turned out fantastic.

Sorry I’ve only found this msg now … I think it would have been fine 🙂 What did you think?

  6. Beautiful! Definitely a favourite and only made it once! Will be a regular meal at our house! Might even put it in pies!

  7. This is the best for flavour and tenderness. I add mushies in the last 45mins then enjoy leftovers for the next 2 days. So simple!!

Found that it cooked quite quickly in my cooker and was very liquidy at the end, had to transfer it to a pot with alot of cornflour to get it to thicken! Ended up adding some beef gravy mix and paprkia to add more flavour. Will cook again but will change the ingredients up some more ?

  9. Agree with the other comments to put gravy powder in at the end. Just brings all the flavours together!

another great meat for this would be cross-cut blade. It’d dearer, but the bit that looks like a sinew running down the middle goes jellified when cooked and it makes a brilliant braised ot stewed meat meal. I use it all the time, it’s actually off the outside of the shoulder blade, near to where bolar roast comes from

Just made this tonight. Awesome. Better than other other cooking methods. I cubed the meat (used 500 gms) and quartered the onions. Also added roast meat gravy powder as a thickener. This recipe is perfect for my 1.5 litre cauldron.

  12. I just use packets of gravy mix and make it with less water so I can it it to the drippings.

If by better you mean a leaner cut of meat – the results are not as good. IT will give a dry less tasty result if it’s too lean

  13. So amazing served it with mash and mixed veg instead of thickening with cornflour I used a sprinkle of gravox gravy powder

Absolutely delicious will certainly make again. So simple too. Thickened with Maggi Gravy mix and served on a bed of mashed potatoes with other veg on the side. ?

I did this with 1.3kg of rump steak and it was amazing. I doubled the rest of the recipe so it didn’t go dry as it wasn’t fully coated with it and it was sooo tasty. I didn’t bother with the cornflour. Yum yum. Our fussy 10yr old even had some. ??????

I made this a few days ago with the rump steak and we all loved it even the fussy 10yr old. Today I made it with bolar blade beef 1.5kg and I doubled the recipe again but I accidentally added 4 tablespoons of beef stock instead of 4tsp. Wooops BUT it was absolutely amazing. I did baste it every two hours and I turned it twice as it was looming abit dry but it wasn’t just me. The family loved this even more. Even the fussy kid?????? I even got away with woolies frozen winter Vegetables as I forgot to prep my veggies. This is a winner again. I love this site!!!

A little bit of something different also to try making braising steak with oxtail soup, as kids it was my mum’s way of getting everybody to try it. You can still add all the vegetables too. It is simply delicious.

  18. Do you think this would work with sausages. Trying to use what I have instead of going to the shops during lockdown.

I added some Gravox Brown Onion gravy towards the end to thicken up the sauce. Definitely cooking this one again.

I had 1 min steaks left over from Xmas party tough as old boots on the BBQ I thought I would have a look at a easy recipe and this was fantastic… So soft and really nice with mash or I had bread rolls maybe with grated cheese I’ll keep it in mind for next time…

OMG this is “Heaven in the Mouth”
So easy yet so very delicious.
I only made half the recipe as that was the amount of gravy beef I had on hand – so halved other ingredients – used beef stock instead of beef powder and water. Also added some celery chopped finely and carrots chunky.
Sliced onions on bottom then beef then celery and carrots over beef – mixed wet ingredients in jug and poured over. Cooked on HIGH for four hours added finely cut small potato (to help thicken liquid) cooked on LOW another hour then mixed a little Gravox with water and added.
Served with creamy mashed potatoes and Snow Peas. 10 / 10
    Thank you for this recipe.
