Serving: 5
Prep Time 5 minutes
Cook Time 4 hours 30 minutes
Total Time 4 hours 35 minutes

Ingredients

  • 1kg of chicken thigh fillets (or chicken cut of your choice)
  • 1 tsp of dried rosemary
  • 1 tsp of dried thyme
  • 1 sachet of instant supreme/roast chicken gravy (no water added to gravy)
  • 1/2 cup warm water
  • 200ml cooking cream

Instructions

  • Place whole, raw chicken fillets into slow cooker (dice if you prefer)
  • Sprinkle herbs over chicken
  • Sprinkle dry gravy mix over chicken
  • Add half a cup of water over the top of chicken (no mixing needed)
  • Cook on low for 4hrs
  • Gently remove chicken after moving it around in dish to disperse any gravy mix still on top of chicken, and set aside briefly
  • Add cream to slow cooker, whisk to combine well (see notes below) then return chicken to gravy
  • Cook for an additional 30 minutes to heat gravy through

Notes

  • If you feel it's needed you could also add 2 tsp of cornflour in with cream to thicken gravy further but we didn't need to
  • Serve with mashed potato and steamed seasonal veg for simple dinner the whole family will love

Got rave reviews from my family last night! I think this will be on the menu more often now.

Yeppity yep yep this was deeee-licious. Went back for seconds. So easy, cheap and limited ingredients. Chicken was tender and flavoursome. Enough gravy sauce to have with pasta or rice or whatever you prefer but we had it with mash. ?

Could you use just plain chicken gravox instead of the sachet?

      You sure can 🙂

Made this tonight to sum it up in one word … AMAZING … Mr 5 and Miss 3 also demolished it which is a plus. I did add 1/2 tsp of garlic powder and 1/2 tsp of onion powder.

    Absolutely delicious. Everyone loved it.

Is cooking cream like heavy whipping cream or half and half? never heard it called that

Cooking cream is a cream that resists splitting when heated. More info HERE

How many tablespoons of Gravox powder is in a sachet? I don’t have a sachet, I only have 2 varieties of Gravox powder in 140g tins…Roast Meat & Pepper (I normally use 2 tbs roast meat & 1 tbs pepper Gravox to make 1 cup gravy. Yum). Thankyou Pauline, for all your hard work to give us such an awesome fb group & website!

Hi Liz, an average sachet is 30g

This recipe looks great Wondering what can be used instead of cream ?

Being a “creamy herb gravy” leaving out the cream would make a significant difference. If it’s allergy related you could try the lactose free cream etc. You could also use a cream of chicken style soup but that would bring extra salt to the dish also.
