Can i cook this on high for half the time please?
You could try? Just be sure the chicken is cooked through and the sauce doesn’t burn
Do you sear the chicken first?
No I’ll always say so if you need to 🙂
Very easy and tasty ? We all enjoyed it, including my 3 year old. Served it with mashed potato and steamed vegies.
The sauce was a little watery so I removed the drumsticks and kept them warm, to thicken the sauce with a bit of cornflour and water. Will definitely make these again!
can I use whole chicken breasts as we dont eat drumsticks. thanks
Sure you can. I prefer to slow cook with thigh fillets as they tend to be less dry than breast but by all means this recipe will adapt to any chicken cut you prefer 🙂
Sooooooo good, used thigh instead and thickened sauce with cornflour and water mix. A definate regular recipe for us, thanks
Made these for the family, this is a keeper, next time will use thighs. Not a fan of drumsticks but still very yummy.
Thank you for the recipe
Omg… great flavours… used thighs… so tasty
Dinner tonight ? i didnt add the chilli sauce and at the end i chucked chicken in oven to crisp it up a little ? flavours were really nice
This was very nice and next time I will uses thighs and thicken the leftover juices to make a pouring sauce
Cooked this for dinner tonight & hubby & kids loved it, will definitely be making again. I did brown the chicken first & cooked on high for 2 hours then low for an hour & meat just fell off the bone..
Skin on or off of thigh/drumsticks x
Either or is fine 🙂
What do you serve this with?
We serve ours with mash and our fave steamed veg. Rice or even chips would be nice too if you prefer that 🙂
Could you put frozen drumsticks in? How much extra cooking time would you need?
No. Never slow cook from frozen. Here’s why
Very easy to throw together and absolutely delicious! Even got the comment “this was yum!!” by my fussy eater.
So simple to make and simply divine to eat!
Easy and mild dish. kid friendly.
very tasty and simple weeknight meal.
I did take drummies out and put in oven dish. Thickened sauce with cornflour and water, poured over chicken and browned for 15 mins on 180 in oven.
Served with rice and CHANGS noodle salad.
Yum!
Enjoyed this yummy chicken recipe. Followed recipe as written except thickened with a cornflour slurry towards end of cooking and reduced sweet chilli sauce, since Hubby isn’t a chilli fan.
We enjoyed this recipe. Quick and easy to make, resulting in drumsticks with a nice flavour. Followed recipe as written and served with a pumpkin/cauliflower mash and stir fried celery, leek and spinach.
So pleased you enjoyed it Jan! 🙂
Cooked this the other night as part of the Chinese New Year. Everyone throughly enjoyed & I’ve put leftover sauce in the freezer to do another meal (meatballs). Definitely making again.
Thanks so much for your wonderful feedback Rita! 🙂
Hi Pauline, can I use chicken niblets? if so, how long should I cook these on low for? I have 2.3kg to cook up. will this be enough mixture or should I double/triple the quantities
You could definitely use little wings instead of bigger drumsticks Sergeant 🙂 I’d give them usually 4hrs low. That’s a lot in one pot though so I’d be doubling the sauce and then stirring occasionally so they all get coated. However as they get more and more tender you risk them falling apart a bit when you do this. So to avoid this you could do in two batches or two pots. Or … only stir towards the beginning half of cooking then at the end reduce the sauce on the stovetop etc and pour over the finished wings to serve to get them all coated that way 🙂
cooked this up and was looking forward to a nice hot meal when we got home from soccer as its freezing today. unfortunately this was very disappointing. sauce was very watery and not much taste. i personnally wouldnt cook this again
Hi Sergent – was this done as per the 10 drumsticks the recipe listed – or did you change it to 2.3kg of chicken as you said you planned to? If you did make this change that doubles if not more the chicken it’s meant to have, did you reduce and thicken it to account for that as we discussed that it would need? 🙂
