
French Onion Braised Steak
Cooked low'n'slow in the slow cooker for 8 hours and served with fried potato gems & haricots verts, it was the Crème de la crème.
Equipment
- 5L slow cooker
- Frying Pan
- BBQ Grill
Ingredients
- 1.1 kg Cattleman's cut steak
- Salt and pepper to season steak
- Flour to dust steak
- 2 Brown onions sliced
- 2 Cloves garlic
- 1 cup red wine
- Splash of Worcestershire Sauce
- A couple of sprigs of fresh thyme
- 2 Bay leaves
- a splash of olive oil
- A pat of butter
- 1 Packet of French onion soup mix
- 2 Carrots diced
- 6 Mushrooms halved (added 1/2 way through)
Instructions
- Cube steak and season with salt and pepper and dust in flour Browned it on a hot BBQ grill before adding it to the slow cooker
- Caramelise sliced onions over low heat in a frying pan with garlic then add to slow cooker
- Add all other ingredients to slow cooker (except mushrooms which you add half way through cooking)
- Slow cook for 8hrs on low

Very tender and delicious meet. I added green beans to the slow cooker for the last hour so I didn’t have to cook them separately. It was delicious.
