French Onion Braised Steak

Cooked low'n'slow in the slow cooker for 8 hours and served with fried potato gems & haricots verts, it was the Crème de la crème.

Equipment

  • 5L slow cooker
  • Frying Pan
  • BBQ Grill

Ingredients
 

  • 1.1 kg Cattleman's cut steak
  • Salt and pepper to season steak
  • Flour to dust steak
  • 2 Brown onions sliced
  • 2 Cloves garlic
  • 1 cup red wine
  • Splash of Worcestershire Sauce
  • A couple of sprigs of fresh thyme
  • 2 Bay leaves
  • a splash of olive oil
  • A pat of butter
  • 1 Packet of French onion soup mix
  • 2 Carrots diced
  • 6 Mushrooms halved (added 1/2 way through)

Instructions
 

  • Cube steak and season with salt and pepper and dust in flour
    Browned it on a hot BBQ grill before adding it to the slow cooker
  • Caramelise sliced onions over low heat in a frying pan with garlic then add to slow cooker
  • Add all other ingredients to slow cooker (except mushrooms which you add half way through cooking)
  • Slow cook for 8hrs on low

    Very tender and delicious meet. I added green beans to the slow cooker for the last hour so I didn’t have to cook them separately. It was delicious.
