Marry Me Chicken
A slow cooker conversion of the popular online recipe trend
Equipment
- 3L Slow Cooker
- Fry pan
Ingredients
- 750 grams chicken thigh fillets, cut into strips
- 1 tbsp butter
- 2 tsp Minced garlic
- 300 ml cooking cream – see notes below
- 1 tsp Dried oregano
- 1 tsp Dried thyme
- 1 tsp Ground paprika
- 1 tbsp Chicken stock powder – I always use this Massel brand
- Salt and pepper to season
- 10 large fresh basil leaves, cut into thin strips (+ extra to garnish)
- 200 grams sundried tomato strips, (drain oil well on paper towel)
- 1/2 cup shaved parmesan cheese (+ extra to garnish)
Instructions
- In a frying pan heat butter and add minced garlic and chicken strips.Cook on high heat for 5-10mins to brown/seal chicken (see notes below)Add to slow cooker
- Combine all other ingredients, except the cheese, and pour over chicken. Stir to combine.
- Slow cook on low for 3hrs with Tea Towel Trick in place
- Stir in cheese in the final 30mins of cooking time
- Garnish with a little extra cheese and small fresh basil leaves
- NOTES:Cooking cream is available in cold or shelf packs in supermarkets. It resists splitting when heated. If you must use regular cream in this recipe then add a tsp of cornflour to it first to help lesson the risk of that splitting. While the browning step gives a lovely colour to the final dish, it could be skipped if you prefer. If you do not pre brown the chicken then add an extra 30-40mins to your slow cooking time

Thanks Paulene we absolutely loved it! Feedback from around the table was ‘this is amazing’ and a big thumbs up from the teenager. I served it with tagliatelle pasta and garlic bread. Next time I will be doubling the sauce and adding more chicken because there were no left overs. 🙁
Great recipe! Next time I will make a little more sauce so I have enough for when I freeze leftovers.
absolutely amazing comfort food we served ours with tagliatelle pasta the flavours were spot on
Oh my gooooooosh! This recipe is delicious!
We had ours on pasta but next time I’d love to try it on some mash with a crunchy side salad perhaps. I’m pretty sure that no matter how you decided to have this dish, it would be amazing because that’s how delicious it is.
The delicious flavours of creamy sundried tomatoe and the herbs are just perfect. definatly be on the favourites menu. Double the ingredients if you have a big family.
Very tasty. Hubby asked if there were seconds before he’d finished! Easy store cupboard recipe for me so will definitely be making again. Served with pasta & veggies but could easily serve with rice or mashed potato.
Another delicious recipe from Paulene ! I doubled the sauce – because I LOVE sauce, and didn’t pre-cook the chicken. I just added the 30 min cooking time suggested by Paulene. Served with fettucine pasta – yum !
I made this last night and it was absolutely beautiful! Will definitely become one of our go to meals from now on. Was really easy to make also!
Thank you so much for this recipe, I can see why it got its name! So easy to make with delicious results. I served it with pasta and everyone devoured it. I’m so glad I made double.!
I served this with plain rice, but it would be just as good with pasta or cous cous. Really tasty! This will be put on permanent rotation in my house . I’m afraid I went rogue and made it in a pan as it was a last minute decision after getting home late but it turned out just as well. The mark of a good recipe Pauline is its ability to be adaptable, and you have certainly made a good recipe. Well done!
This was amazing! I doubled the sauce quantity and used a kg of sliced chicken breast, then served it with tagliatelle. The sauce was thick and flavourful. Kids went back for seconds and asked if we can have it again tomorrow!
Hi Pauline, do you think Lactose Free Thickened Cream would work okay in this?
I’ve never cooked with LF myself to be certain but if it usually substitutes in ok it should be?
If I ever use a cream that’s not cooking cream though I add 1-2 tsp cornflour to it first to help prevent splitting
Awesome recipie, all the kids eat it so easy !!
Thanks so much for your lovely feedback Skye! 🙂
Absolutely beautiful! I halve the recipe but find I need less time, more liquid and I use a lot less stock powder & salt. Having said all that, we’ve had it quite a few times & always enjoyed with mash & other green vege on the side.
Awesome – thanks Carole 🙂
This is sooooo good. I’m a lazy slow cooker-er so never brown anything and rarely remember to put it on more than a couple of hours before I’m wanting to eat, so I’ve done this with chicken stir fry without browning first – throw everything in and leave it for a couple of hours and it’s delicious. Best with mashed potatoes!
Awesome thanks Deb!! 🙂
Love it love it love it!!!! A huge hit in our family.
That’s awesome! Thanks so much Beck for taking the time to leave feedback 🙂
It’s yummy dish , I made double so I could have leftovers 🙂 Turned out great.
Smart thinking Tracy!! 🙂
Could you do this with coconut cream instead?
I haven’t done so to be sure of the taste and how that changes it, but I don’t see why you couldn’t Jess.
Let us know what you think if you do 🙂
A very tasty dish that was loved by everyone. It will be a staple in our place from now on!
Thanks so much for great feedback Pia! 🙂
I made this tonight and O.M.G. it is amazing!!!! Will definitely be making it again, so yummy 😋 (I used Philadelphia low fat cooking cream)
So pleased you loved it Heather!! 🙂 🙂
Huge hit with the whole family! Will be on rotation at our place. I added 2 frozen spinach nuggets just for some greenery & we had it with rice. Thanks!
Thanks so much for leaving your great feedback Carly! 🙂
Looks so different but so delicious. Trying this one tomorrow night.
Enjoy Helen 🙂 Be sure to let us know what you think when you do 🙂
Super yummy. I served it with garlic, parmesan mash. Plates were picked clean.
Clean plates means you cooked a great meal Bec – well done!
Loved this! I added some leftover champignons, baby spinach and a bit more cream (I used dairy free cream). I also used chicken breast rather than thigh and didn’t brown it. I used my baby slow cooker and only did about 1/3 of the recipe. Served with fresh tagliatelle. It was perfect 👌
That’s great to hear Teaghan! Thanks for leaving your feedback on how you cooked a smaller batch too – did you change times for that? 🙂
Made this for the first time, so easy n delicious.
So pleased you loved it too Colleen! 🙂
I have 2 male fussy eater in the house and they both loved this recipe. I had made it a dump bag and it was so easy to grab it out of the freezer last night, ready to put into the slow cooker for dinner tonight. We served with steam veg and oven chips but I think id serve with mash next time. Def going to be a repeat in our house. Thank you for sharing the recipe.
How fabulous to know it goes well as a dump bag recipe Carley – thanks!
Delicious. Perfect recipe that was easy & quick to put together. Doubled quantities, added corn flour to the full cream & served with steamed veg. Will definitely make again. Thank you, Paulene.
So happy you enjoyed it too Jillian! 🙂
My family of 4 include 2 always hungry sporty adult children, so I decided to use double quantities of this recipe with hopes of leftovers and found a tray of deboned drumsticks at Coles to use instead of breast or thigh chicken.
I skipped the pan fry at the start and stirred all the ingredients into my 6L.
A couple of hours on High as I didn’t put it on until 4pm and then the last hour or so on Low as I waited for everyone to be home to eat around 7pm ish.
Added some slice mushrooms towards the end along with the parmesan and basil and served with jacket potatoes and steamed broccolini and peas.
Delish!
(There was only 1 portion left, so I think they liked it)
That’s awesome tips for others doubling this! Thanks so much for leaving your feedback Donna 🙂
Delicious and easy to make! Made with thickened cream and cornflour instead of cooking cream. Served with cous cous and steamed veg. Would be great served with pasta
So happy you loved it too Jessica 🙂
After all the years I have been in this wonderful group and all the delicious recipes I’ve cooked, this was my first time in making this plate of absolute Deliciousness 😋 Hubby gave it a 10/10 definitely will be making again & again 😋

Did this for dinner tonight (have done it before) and once again it’s a hit with all the family. Served with boiled rice and blanched snow peas fresh from the vege patch.
Yours looked fab too Leanne! 🙂

This is amazing, tastes soooo good
Thanks so much for your lovely feedback Sheriee! 🙂
ANOTHER FANTASTIC MEAL 😋
First time cooking this but certainly not the last. So good. The smell in the house when i walked in after work omg. Used chicken breast (didn’t brown first), only 1 tsp garlic (sensitive hubby) and served over fettuccine. Have leftovers so will try them with mash and vege.
Only change for next time is double the sauce (love sauce). Would also be delicious done with prawns i think.
Wonderful feedback! Thanks so much Tracy 🙂
Very tasty. Only put 1/4 tsp of the oregano and thyme (hubby not a fan)but also added some sliced mushrooms and baby spinach. Served with penne pasta. Turned out perfect. Will definitely make again .
So happy you enjoyed it! And thanks so much for taking the time to leave your feedback 🙂
We loved the taste but found it a bit salty ??
You can change the regular stock to salt reduced and lessen the parmessan as that adds salt also
