Equipment

  • 5L slow cooker

Ingredients

  • 500 gram pork mince
  • 440 gram can pineapple pieces in juice, drained and juice discarded
  • 1 small red chilli deseeded and fine diced
  • 2 tsp minced ginger
  • 1 tsp Minced garlic
  • 1 red capsicum, core removed and diced
  • 1/4 cup Brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup rice wine vinegar
  • 1/4 cup oyster sauce
  • 2 tbsp Soy sauce

Instructions

  • Add all ingredients to slow cooker.
  • Cook on low for 5hrs
  • If you wish to you could thicken with 1tbsp corn flour mixed with 1tbsp water and stirred through 10mins prior to serving but we didn’t feel it needed it with rice as a side dish to soak up the sauce 🙂
  • Delicious served with rice and side veg or even on burgers 🙂

  1. Hi Pauline. I note you’ve stipulated using a 5 litre SC for this recipe. Great! I feel quite frustrated when reading the recipes posted because no-one mentions the SIZE of the cooker. I have been using a 3.5 ltr with great success for recipes not really written for SCs. Can you suggest a way to work out if the 3.5 is ok/too small for your published recipes, please.
    Cheers, Lyn

We used to always ask people to include slow cooker sizes but many did not do so. So on our new website it’s now a required field when submitting a new recipe.
Likewise with our books, every book since the 2nd one onwards includes slow cooker size for every recipe.
Generally speaking it’s fine to use 3.5L for any of our recipes that FIT. Naturally if they don’t fit the ingredients in they need to be scaled down.
Changing the size just may change the cook times so I suggest when you try a new recipe note down your changes made so you always know for next time.

This tasted better than I could have expected. Served ours with stir fried veggies.
I didn’t have enough oyster sauce so I did 1/8 cup oyster sauce and 1/8 cup hoisin sauce as that what I had in the cupboard. And was amazing.
Will try it on burgers next time.

    Tasty and yum,
First time I made with sausages, this time with chicken mince. Served mine with rice.
YUM, so versatile to various meats.
    Win win 😀
