Ingredients

  • 1 roast pork piece 1.5-2kg
  • 2 onions, sliced
  • 1 bottle of smoky bbq marinade
  • 1 x 30g sachet of taco seasoning

Instructions

  • Add sliced onion to base of slow cooker
  • Remove any string from roast pork and place pork fat side down, on top of onion
  • Combine marinade and taco mix and pour over pork
  • Cook on high for 7hrs or low for 10hrs
  • BEFORE shredding pork remove and discard fat and rind layer
  • Serve pulled pork on soft white bread rolls with salad leaves
  • Note:
  • Don't be concerned if you see lots of liquid build up during cooking. Pork absorbs this when shredded into it
  • You can substitute the marinade for your favourite smoky bbq sauce bottle if you prefer
  • Great dish to self serve at your next party

  1. The family loved this. Could probably do with two packets of the taco seasoning as in the end it was just a sweet bbq flavour. Very easy to do with left overs

  2. Brilliant recipe! So easy, delicious & versatile….our first batch lasted 3 days between the two of us haha! I’ve made it two more times and will make many times again. Add chilli powder if you want more spice

Definitely one of THE BEST pulled pork recipes I’ve tried, is always a hit with my family.

  4. Made this with the biggest pork roast that would fit into my slow cooker, buns, coleslaw and fresh steamed corn on the cob for a family get together and everybody raved about it for weeks. Put it on high first thing in the morning and it was ready for a late lunch/early dinner get together A+++

  5. Cooking this today. I presume a lot of fat will end up in the liquid…. do you remove this before shredding?
Is it best to return to the slow cooker to shred or do in a bowl and add the liquid? Thanks

    1. Hi Matt

You can remove it THIS way 🙂

I like to shred the meat on a cutting board easily then return it to the pot where it will soak up the liquids/sauces in the slow cooker.
If the end is too saucy just serve with a slotted spoon to minimise sauce content 🙂

  6. Such a versatile recipe and easy too. We use it for nachos, burgers, over baked potatoes. Kids even like it with just salad. We like things a little spicier in our house, so we add a little cayenne pepper to ours.

  7. Made this recently and it was easy, delicious and versatile (we got 2 dinners out of it). Used exactly the same ingredients as in the picture – next time I might try 2 sachets of taco mix as I felt the taco flavour got a little lost in the smoky bbq.

  8. I have made this before and had with slaw and rolls and it is absolutely delicious. This time I added corn, white beans and spinach and served with rice. Just as yummy.
    Thank you. ???

  9. Melt in your mouth yumminess!
I followed recipe cooked on high for 7.5hr. I cut the pork rind off first before adding to cooker (I made crackling) in oven later..
We had pulled pork sliders with coleslaw. My family (even my fussy husband) raved about the flavour and the pork so tender. A million stars for this recipe!!

  10. I’m not a lover of Pork but my kids like it, so I tried this recipe with the intention of giving it a go…..not only did my house smell amazing while it was cooking, it tasted absolutely delicious!! I’ve now made this a few times. It makes plenty, we’ve had it for left overs and we’ve even given some to friends to take home too!
I tell everyone about this recipe haha

Used a 2.3kg piece of pork leg roast from Woolies
I removed the string as per the recipe. I did however cut the pork rind off before adding to SC.
Cooked on low for approx 10.5hr. Served with American coleslaw on a milky bread bun. Extremely delicious – LOVE this recipe ! A favourite of mine now & minimal ingredients – WInning !

I decided to do a test run on this so I could use it for an event. And how good was it? it was amazing! like 4 ingredients, doesn’t get much easier. Ours is being served with coleslaw and bread rolls. I took off the rind so I could dry it out in the fridge and make crackle.
