Total Time 5 hours 10 minutes

Ingredients

  • 1kg lean beef mince
  • 1/2 cup mirin (125ml)
  • 1/2 cup sake (125ml)
  • 1/2 cup LOW SALT soy sauce (125ml)
  • 1/4 cup firm packed brown sugar
  • 1 Tblsp minced ginger
  • 1 Tblsp minced garlic
  • 1Tblsp cornflour + water to thicken

Instructions

  • Combine all ingredients (except the cornflour & water) into slow cooker
  • Cook on low for 4.5hrs
  • Remove any excess oil that may gather on top (I just use a small measuring cup to scoop mine out)
  • If any lumps in your mince, use a plastic potato masher to ensure no lumps remain
  • Mix cornflour and water into slurry and stir through mince and continue cooking for remaining 30mins
  • Serve with jasmine rice
  • —Notes
  • Purchase mirin and cooking sake from Asian aisle of supermarkets
  • Alcoholic sake is also available at bottle shops for adult eaters if you prefer
  • Would be great with chicken mince too
  • Low salt soy sauce is preferred
  • Cooked in my Crock-Pot Express Crock Multi Cooker

I made this yesterday very tasty I did add extra 1/2 packet pre packed stir fry vegetables and broccoli that I microwaved 4minutes at the end served with cheats microwave rice and it was enjoyed by all. Thankyou another winner.

I made this using chicken thighs. Was super yummy served with rice and steamed vegetables. Definitely a new dinner added to our regular menu.

  3. This is our new family favourite. I make it using chicken thighs and steam some vegetables to have with it.
Anything the kids love is a winner for me.
Anyone worried about the ginger flavour. I hate ginger, but can barely notice it in this dish.

  4. I made this tonight for the first time and it was really nice, I added some broccoli but will leave it out till the last hour or a bit less next time as i prefer it to be a little crisp but very easy and very tasty.

  5. I made this the other night for the first time and it was very nice, i added broccoli but next time I won’t add it till the last 45 minutes as I like it a bit crispy, I had it with boiled rice, it would be nice in lettuce cups and also as teriyaki meat pies
A great budget friendly meal with flavour ?

  6. I was abit skeptical of this recipe but it is an absouletly beautiful combination, such a cheap and easy throw together meal.

  7. My family of 6 absolutely loved this recipe! Soooooo easy to make and so tasty! Everyone actually loved it and finished their plates, which is quite miraculous in our house! We put ours on vegie rice and it was healthy and still tasted delicious! Super fast to prepare too with only a few ingredients, I have 4 young children and seriously no time, so can get a bit turned off by recipes with too many fussy ingredients, so this was just perfect!
Thanks so much, will definitely be making this again! xx

  8. My family of 7 absolutely loved it, it has been one to add to my meal plan list 🙂 Thankyou for the recipe its super easy to make and budget friendly for a large family.

  9. Absolutely delicious and quick cheap and easy ?????
My family loved it and are asking when we will have it again

  10. Made this for the first time last night. Will be making again for sure. Thought I would be the only one who ate it but my 13 year old loved it and even my fussy 15 year old loved it and she doesn’t like rice but I mixed the meat through the rice and she ate the whole lot!! As expected master 5 wouldn’t even try it ?

  11. What a beautiful and unique flavor this was. I made so many mistakes and still enjoyed it. But I need to do it again and closer to properly!!

  12. Mine didn’t have the rich colour like in the picture above but it tasted better than it looked. Super easy to make too. Served with rice, julienned carrot and snow peas. Response from my 4yo “the meat is the BEST”.

  13. Made this the other night. Adjusted the recipe for 6 but did not have to change cook time. Absolute success! So easy. I put a bag together in the morning before work and had my visiting mother throw it in and switch it on at 1pm. Everyone loved it! My husband and 8 year old can be a little fussy but they both polished theirs off. As my 19 year old said afterwards “add it to the list”. So it has been added to my regular rotation

  14. Used 1kg chuck steak instead of the mince and it turned out beautifully. ? Also added a packet of stirfry frozen veggies towards the end and served with special fried rice. Loved this recipe, I will definitely be making it again!

  15. Only had 500g of beef mince and made the recipe as is ….used tea towel method to reduce condensation. I cooked it for specified time and it was an amazing juicy teriyaki. Served with pasta and broccoli. Wow I thoroughly enjoyed my dinner.

  16. I made this for the first time tonight. I doubled the sauce which I wouldn’t do again as it was not needed. I did add 2 grated carrots in with the mince at the start. And after a 1.5 hr added broccoli and onion. Meal is tasty and the family has said to make it again so success.

  17. Made this today, using pork mince instead of beef.
Pork mince was not fatty at all, didn’t need to remove any off of the top.
Serve it with some steamed green veggies on the side.
    Delicious ?

  18. Hi, I can’t find sake locally and I don’t have sherry either. Am aiming to cook this today, any idea what I could substitute? Or better to leave out altogether? Thanks!

Loved it. Nice quick and easy. Will definitely add to the monthly meal list. I might have mash next time instead of rice.
