As someone who slow cooks ALL YEARΒ roundΒ I’ve never been one to subscribe to the old school of thought that it’s only a winter appliance.
As a result I’m often asked about what I slow cook in hot summer months
Today I’ll give you some ideas π
I personally don’t find one slow cooker on the go in my kitchen makes any difference what so ever to the temperature in my house during a hot Qld Summer, but if you do some other options I see folks do is to run it in a garage, laundry or patio etc π
It’s sure better than standing over a stove or oven in a hot kitchen that’s for sure!
Another option is to slow cook overnight or very early morning before those temperatures of the day start to soar π
Or slow cook a few meals at once so you don’t have to cook again at all the next day π
The most important determinate of Summer Slow Cooking is often the sides.
Sure you aren’t likely to cook soups or hot curries or big hearty hot casseroles … but if you change up what your serve your other slow cooked meals with you change up the season of the dish!
Ditch the hot vegetables, the rice and the mash or heavy pastas and serve your slow cooked meal with salads or on light wraps, as pizza toppings or even as nibble platters and with bbq sides!
I find most recipes in our EGG category to be light and summary.
Who doesn’t love a quiche, an omelette or a frittata with a lovely side salad on a hot day!
Or go to our CHICKEN category for recipes like wings, chicken drumsticks or even slow cooked whole chickens which again go great with a salad or with wraps or bbq style sides π
Another great option is cold cuts of roast meat!
Roast pork, roast beef, roast lamb … all great served cold on a steamy hot day with a nice fresh salad.
And don’t forget Ribs!Β Pork or beef or lamb ribs, it doesn’t matter which π Always delish with a light side on a hot day!
Or swing by our MINCE category for lasagna or meatballs for your next summer feed π
Or perhaps something from our SEAFOOD category with chips and salad sounds summary!
And who can go past a simple pulled pork or shredded beef or pulled chicken!
So easy to serve on a bread roll with salad or slaw for an easy, light summer feed π
Maybe Mexican?Β Tacos or wraps are another great option for a hot day!
Of course you may just rather skip cooking the main meals and slow cook other things like desserts, cakes, fudges, snacks or side dishes too.
Whatever you decide we have it for you at Slow Cooker Central to get you through those hot steamy days of Summer Slow Cooking xx
