  • 2 Tablespoons olive oil
  • 250g diced bacon
  • 1kg beef mince
  • 250ml red wine
  • 2 garlic cloves crushed
  • 500g diced onion
  • 2 celery sticks diced
  • 1 large carrot diced
  • 1 (400g) tin of tomatoes
  • 250ml tomato passata
  • 1 beef stock cube
  • 1 sprinkle of mixed herbs
  • Sea salt
  • Black pepper


  • 1. Warm olive oil in a large saucepan, when hot add bacon and cook for 2-3 mins. Add mince in batches and cook for 5 to 10 mins until browned spooning into Sc with a slotted spoon.
  • 2. Return to pan to heat add wine and cook for 1 minute. Stirring and scraping sides constantly. Pour into Sc. Add garlic, onion, celery, carrots, tomatoes, passata, mixed herbs and stock cube and mix well
  • 3. Cover slow cooker with the lid and cook on low for 8-10 hrs or until rich and thick
  • 4. Serve over cooked spaghetti/pasta
