Cook Time 7 hours
Total Time 7 hours 5 minutes

Ingredients

  • One large whole chicken (mine was 2kg)
  • 1/2 cup honey
  • 1/2 cup BBQ sauce
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 2 cloves minced garlic
  • 1 tsp mustard powder

Instructions

  • Place chicken into slow cooker bowl
  • Combine all other ingredients and pour over chicken
  • Cook on low for 7hrs
  • Spoon/Baste juices over chicken every hour if you are home to do so, this will help to achieve a rich colour by end of cooking
  • Use two utensils (eg tongs and slotted spoon) to lift out chicken gently without it falling apart.

Super easy to make and super tasty. I have been known to eat the sauce with a spoon 🙂

This recipe will work well for pulled chicken as well. Cook as per recipe instructions and then debone and shread meat at the end of the cooking time.

  2. this dish was amazing, definatly cooking again… thank you Paulene for sharing your recipe 🙂 grandkids ate all the chicken up

  3. It was good, something the kids liked but I used chicken breasts which I won’t be using next time and cooked it for to long so chicken was dry. Next time I will use a whole chicken

  4. This is amazing ! The fam-bam loves it to . After the chicken is cooked I shred /pull it and put it back in the slow cook juices until I have served up all veggies , it just thickens up the sauce a bit more and gives chicken a lot more flavor . I serve in a bed of mash with side of veggies .

  5. We tried this recipe as our second ever slow cooker meal and were very happy with how the chicken turned out … Great flavor .. We usually cook on our Webber Q bbq but this is an excellent other method to enjoy a chicken … will be doing this again ..

  6. Ermagawd this is so tasty!! And easy as well! I added a good spoon of ginger. Probably would have added chilli as well but for whiners! Also cooked some spuds in the sauce and it was the bomb!

  7. I made this for the first time yesterday. Was nervous about cooking a whole chicken, but it was soooo easy and tasted amazing. Served with mashed potatoes and vegetables. Had plenty left over for sandwiches the next day too. Winner winner chicken dinner

  8. This recipe is a favorite of mine and it is the only way I cook a whole roast Chicken, it is so delicious and easy to make, I do put the chicken breast side down it lends up being so tender it falls apart, I usually make roast vegies as sides, Last night I tried Cheesy potato smash (also slow cooking dish on this site) as a side and steamed vegies

This was amazing. My fussy 10yr old not only ate it but asked for more. ?????? I did turn the chicken over for the last 45mins or so and was basting it ever hour which just makes your mouth water even more.

made this last night, 1kg chicken breast skin on, 3hr on low, halved the sauce, tasted fantastic

  11. Made this tonight using chicken drums with skin on – it was delicious and so easy to throw together. 4- 5 hours on low.
Served on whipped potato, minted peas and julienned carrots….so delicious – sprinkled with sesame seeds. (and I got to have some leftovers to take to work!)
    Thanks for the recipe ?

  12. Made this with wing nibbles had on high for 3 hours for 2kg and then browned up in the oven for 15.
Massive hit with the crew went like hotcakes!!!

  13. Cool…
My first attempt at cooking a whole chook in the SC and I was not disappointed..
Served with sides of peas and corn, Baked potato and pumpkin with baked caulie sprinkled with oil, onion salt and parmeson cheese..
Only change I made was half the garlic (personal choice..)
Melted in my mouth while eating and the flavour just added the extra taste for the taste buds..
I will definitely be cooking more whole chickens from here..

  14. So tasty & moist with a beautiful flavour and no extra work than buying a pre cooked chook. Slow Cooker looks after it for the day & you still have to break it up as you do a pre cooked one – why bother when you can get your own flavours any time you like. ???

  15. No effort, super succulent deliciousness .
First time I’ve cooked whole chook since I don’t know when ???
Will not be the last time now!
