  • Yields: 1 (multiply for more serves)


1x chicken drum stick.

1x pork strip or chop.

1x ball of stuffing. (bread, mixed herbs salt pepper 1 egg mushed together)

Potatoes, kumura (sweet potato), carrots and pumpkin.

Cabbage leaves to wrap


1Wrap meat n veg with cabbage leaves then wrap in tin foil

2Place packages on some rolld up balls of tin foil or a upside down bowl

3Fillslow cooker with water to just below packages seal cooker with wet tea teal

4Cook for about 6 hours on low

This is an unusual year, so we’re having an out-of-the-ordinary Christmas dinner. The ground is frozen here in Canada, so I can’t do a real hangi, but I have a slow cooker! Woot woot!

I’ve done this a few times using chicken breast, pork steak, lamb steak with potato/pumpkin/kumara and stuffing, it’s so good n makes me think of when I was young n growing up with neighbors who always put down hangis, 10/10 from me

I’ve made this today. Simply delicious. So easy to prepare, and looks great plated up still cabbage leaves which hold their shape.
