  1. This is THE best self saucing pudding recipe. Not only is it great in the slow cooker (have made it several times!), but at the weekend, I halved the recipe, and made it in the oven – 175 degC for 35-40 minutes.

This recipe is delicious however the cake/sauce ratio is out. You can successfully use 1.5/2 cups of boiling water (with adjusted cocoa powder) and still have heaps of sauce.
I also made this in my 3.5L with no issues at all, the only difference is I had to cook it for 3.5hrs instead of 2.5.

This is a great recipe that’s not as sweet as it sounds. You end up with a soft gooey cake and slightly thick chocolate sauce. The sauce/cake ratio is a little out in my opinion and you can easily get away with 2 cups of boiling water rather than 3 and still have plenty. After eating the whole cake with sauce for each person we still have heaps of sauce left over.

I successfully cooked this recipe in my 3.5L with no issues at all too. I just had to extend the cooking time to 3.5hrs and it turned out perfectly. We will definitely make it again and recommend it to anyone who loves this type of dessert.

  4. Yummy pudding!
I halved the recipe as I was only making it for 2 and cooking time worked out to be about 2 hours.

  5. Very yummy! I was worried about the 5 cups of boiled water for the sauce (seemed a lot!) but it was perfect! Very gooey and saucy but not too rich. Easily serves 6 ppl with custard on the side ?

  6. 1st time making this tonight n omg it was sooooooo good!!! I cheated though, I used a chocolate cake mix that I had in the cupboard, made it up according to the directions on the back of the pack, then I went by the sauce recipe from this but cut the sugar content down, I used half a cup of brown sugar, 1/4 cup of cocoa n 2 cups of boiling water n was just perfect (Y)

Absolutely delicious! I did only use 1 & 1/2 cups of brown sugar and didn’t miss it at all! It makes a lot, easily feeds 6-8 very generous serves! Looking forward to the leftovers tomorrow!

  8. I made this tonight and it was really yummy. Made it exactly as the recipe states and it made heaps and fed 4 adults and 2 kids easily with leftovers. Served it with ice cream and it was a massive hit ? Just note it is very rich ?

  9. This is a delicious, big, rich and saucy dessert. I halved the brown sugar and it was a little too salty so I’m going to half that when I make it again tonight. So yummy.

  10. Easy to follow recipe and will be making it again. I thought there may have been too much sauce but it thickened once cooled and it’s lovely to eat hot or cold so thanks for the rest open I’m so glad I tried it out

  11. Made this last night, glad I checked it s at 1 hour and 40 minutes it was well and truly cooked. The cake portion was very dry, and could do with more sauce but the flavour was nice.

  12. Just checking why this recipes has no eggs in it? Seems odd just about to try it for the first time 🙂

  13. Made this and added 4tblspn of desiccated coconut in topping as I love love love chocolate and coconut together
Was perfect and delicious nom nom

I made this tonight and it is yum!

I only had 100% cocoa at home so mine was not really sweet but does have a lovely creamy flavor and I served it with vanilla ice cream to add sweetness.

I also only cooked mine for 1.5 hours and it is velvety soft!

Makes quite a big serve so would be great for a dinner party dessert

Halved the recipe and used the 3.5ltr cooker. Cooked for 2.5 hours. Fed 3 adults and 3 littlies. Very much like my microwave recipe and is just as delicious. I’m sure it will be just as much a favourite.

  16. Has anyone successfully doubled this recipe? If so, did cooking times vary? Will need to feed 10 people. Thanks in advance!

  17. Hi, just wondering if anyone has successfully doubled this recipe? Needing to cook for 10 people. Thanks in advance!

  18. Very delicious. Made it for the first time tonight. My 3 year old licked her bowl cleaned :). Makes a generous amount.

  19. This is my family’s favourite dessert and ask for it almost once a month don’t hesitate to cook it will be a firm favourite

  20. Made this lastnight, I’m not the greatest of cooks but this was soooo easy to make and turned out amazing!! My kids absolutely loved it and want more, were looking forward to making more things in our slow cooker 🙂

  21. Absolutely loved this! I made this in my 5.5L Slow Cooker and it was perfect. We served it with some ice cream for 2 Adults & 6 Kids with leftovers ?

Best self saucing pudding I’ve ever had! So moist and gooey. I added a few cubes of crunchie chocolate. Definitely making this again!

  23. Love this recipe, have used custard powder instead of cocoa, and used low gi sugar with less brown sugar.

  24. I normally cook my pudding in the oven but no more! The slow cooker made it so easy and it was delicious. definately recommend

  25. This is such a nice recipe, but way too sweet! I halve the sugar, and use 3 cups of water for the sauce (personal preference for a little less sauce).

  26. Our family love it, easy on the pocket for a delicious pudd, moist sauce is just right, only pudd I get requested for from the grandkids

  27. I’ve made this a few times and we LOVE IT! My mum had asked me to make it for her today but I only have self raising flour, can I use that instead of plain flour and baking powder?

  28. Was amazing followed recipe and easy to make, was so moist better than any self saucing pudding I’ve ever made in the oven!! Took 2 hours in my 5.5l slow cooker will make again!!

  29. Winner winner chicken dinner!! An absolutely indulgent dessert that I’ll be making again for sure. It made so much and I was only feeding 2 adults and 2 kids, on the upside we have dessert sorted for tomorrow now too 🙂 Super easy to make my 10 year old grandson helped with the measuring and mixing, he thought he was a master chef LOL

  30. Made this gluten free – substituted gluten free flour. First time was too much sauce so reduced to 3 cups water second time and was perfect

  31. I have made a lot of self saucing puddings and would just like to say CONGRATULATIONS… This is the absolute best recipe. Thank you so much.

  32. What a luxurious rich desert. Easy to make and enjoyed by everyone who had it. Took a little bit longer in my slow cooker but will definitely make again. Thank you ?

  33. This is my go to recipe. It is very rich but I also add chocolate chips and raspberry jam.
It’s very easy to make, just put the batter and sauce into the slow cooker and let it do it’s thing.

  34. Can people start adding the Low settings time estimate to their recipes please? Some people need low settings too. Thank you 🙂

  35. This is our “go to” chocolate self saucing pudding recipe. I use half brown sugar and half caster sugar for the pudding part. My eldest loves it so much, he asked me to make it on his 13th birthday. Thanks for the awesome recipe xo.
