Ingredients

  • 1kg potato chopped in quarters
  • 1 onion chopped
  • 2 celery sticks chopped
  • Chives chopped
  • 1/4 cup oyster sauce
  • 2 cups water
  • 300ml cream
  • 800g-1kg marinara seafood mix
  • Bread to serve with

Instructions

  • Seafood chowder.
  • Place chopped : 1kg potato, 2 tablespoons of Chives, 2 celery sticks, 1onion, 1/4 cup oyster sauce and 2 cups of water into the slow cooker. Put on high for 1hr & low for 4-5hours.
  • Remove lid. Stick blend until smooth.
  • Then Place in 800g - 1kg of marinara seafood (grocery store mix from the deli). Put lid back on. Turn slow cooker to high for about 30-40mins until seafood is cooked. (Seafood is cooked when prawns are orange and fish is white). Add 300ml or more of cream. Serve with bread and a sprinkle of chives.
  • Tips: if there is too much fluid after blending, leave the lid off when cooking the seafood. Also add more cream if you wish. It also works well with lite cream for lower calorie option.

  1. Made this for my husband who loves seafood chowder. He said it was really good. Lots of flavour and that I should definitely make it again.
I kept some of the potatoes as chunks rather than blitz them all…for texture. When adding seafood….I added some marinara mix but mostly used fresh snapper and some surimi. I also added peas towards the end.
Thank you for sharing the recipe Ann.

  2. I love Seafood Chowder but have never been game to try to make it myself. This recipe is easy to do and is as authentic as you can get!
I did cube the potatoes very small so they cooked a bit quicker that way. Love it!

  3. Made this tonight and we loved it the flavour was just perfect I did add peas and garlic to the mix definitely will be making again although next time I’ll be add crab meat and less fish ?

What size slow cooker did you use please? Could double this recipe or at least 1 1/2 ? 🙂

  5. First time we have made a Chowder …. We added Australian seafood — Flathead , Calamari , prawns and sea scallops…..
We don’t use supermarket marinara mix as it is overseas farmed rubbish that we choose not to eat ..
Was very nice and will have this again ..

  7. Love this recipe. I didn’t have any chives so left that out. Seafood I used was fish and prawns. At time of adding seafood I also added peas. Just before serving I added chopped shallots. I just added cream until I was happy with it

Absolutely loved this. I added diced carrot as well. I diced the potatoes.
Before blending I took some of the veg out and added them back in once blended so we had a few veg to bite into with the seafood.
I used fresh seafood (Mussels, scallops, prawns and white fish).
3 adults and 1 child gave this all thumbs up.
    Would definitely do this again.

  9. So yummy. Did try blending in slow cooker and went every where. So transfered potatoe to blend much better no mess haha.

  10. This is awesome! And so easy to prepare. I accidentally peeled 2 kg potatoes so I doubled everything in the recipe except the marinara, instead adding a very large fillet of salmon cubed up. Made so much I’ve still got 4 meals left in the freezer after eating it last night and again tonight! Thank you so much Anne Turnbull!

Thank you for sharing your recipe I will definitely be making again.
Flavour surprised me and only added some sweet potato to the recipe for first time making it also leaving texture a bit chunky.

Amazing meal, full of flavour in each mouthful.
I did add 1 clove garlic to my recipe.
This is a winner meal, especially in the winter, rich and filling.
