Total Time 4 hours 30 minutes

Ingredients

  • 1 Orange,
  • 200 grams butter,
  • 1/2 cup castor sugar,
  • 3 eggs,
  • 3/4 cup milk,
  • 2 cups SR Flour,
  • 1/3 cup poppy seeds.

Instructions

  • I put the Orange into my small slow cooker and cooked it on high for 2 - 3 hours. (until the Orange was soft )
  • Take the Orange out of the water and I put it into my blender. I blended all the orange to a pulp and then added the butter and sugar.
  • Blended that and then added 1 egg at a time until mixed.
  • I took the lid off my blender and added the milk and flour. Mixed that until smooth.
  • Then I added the poppy seeds and mixed that with a wooden spoon.
  • I used a silicone mould and cooked on high for 2 1/2 hours on high with a tea towel under the lid.
  • My medium cooker is a little slower than normal, so just check as you go.

  1. Dear Greta,
You mentioned to take the orange out of the water. How much water did you put in the slow cooker for the orange?. Do you peel the orange first or do you put the whole lot in? What happens to the seeds? I don’t have a silicone mould can I put the mixture straight in the pot of slow cooker? Thanks Greta

WOW! I made this cake today directly in my nonstick slow cooker. I didn’t add the poppy seeds as I had none. When I tasted the cake batter I felt like it wasn’t sweet enough for my liking (sweet tooth) so when it finished cooking I put a few holes into the cake and poured a sugar syrup over it and let the cake soak it up (yum). The sugar syrup was 1cup sugar and 1cup water ( just bring to boil) and pour over. If I had another orange in the house I would have made an orange syrup. Will definitely be making again.
