Instructions

Minnie Mouse Caramel Apples--(recipe is per dozen)

  • You'll Need:
  • 1 dozen granny smith apples ( these are best to pair with all the sugar layers we'll add)
  • 1 dozen sticks
  • 1 bag of large marshmallows
  • 2 cans condensed milk turned into caramel
  • 2 packages of melting chocolate ( I used milk chocolate)
  • 1 package pink melting chocolate ( Buy from Walmart, Joann's, etc.)
  • 1 package red melting chocolate
  • 1 package of White M&M's or white Sixlets
  • 12 clear favor bags
  • pink ribbon & red ribbon

How to make the Caramel:

  • Place 2 cans sweetened condensed milk into a slow cooker and cover cans completely with water. Cook on low for 8 hours or high for 4 hours. remove from heat and let completely cool before opening.
  • When ready to make apples, place caramel in a saucepan and warm to temp medium/high, stirring constantly.
  • Add 1 tablespoon of water and stir to thin the caramel out for dipping. (I had to use 1 and 1/2 cups of water because mine was VERY thick).

How to make the laffy taffy bows:

  • Buy desired Laffy Taffy colors.
  • Unwrap taffy's and place a few at a time in the microwave for 5-10 seconds. Just until they are pliable.
  • Shape taffy's into a bow and lay on wax paper and refrigerate. ( I simply placed my fingers on the top and bottom of the taffy in the center and pushed it together for a gathered look.
  • I then smoothed out the sides of the bow)
  • TIP** spray cooking spray on tips of fingers before shaping the taffy. Keeps it from sticking to your fingers.
  • Clean and dry the apples and place them on a cookie sheet lines with wax paper sprayed with cooking spray.
  • Put the sticks into the top of the apple then place to refrigerator.
  • After 10-15 minutes, take the apples out and dip them one by one into the caramel covering 3/4 of the apple in caramel.
  • Place the apples on the wax paper.
  • Quickly grab 2 marshmallows and dip the sides in caramel.
  • Attach the marshmallows to the top of the apple on each side.
  • Repeat until all apples have Minnie Mouse marshmallow ears.
  • Then refrigerate.
  • While those cool and form start melting the milk chocolate on a double boiler.
  • You can add pieces of Parrafin Wax (sold at most food stores) to make a shiny coating (Optional).
  • Melt until smooth.
  • Take the apples out and dip the entire apple in the chocolate.
  • Be sure to dip all the way to the stick.
  • This will cover the apple and give an even coating.
  • Use a butter knife to swipe the excess from the bottom of the apple.
  • Place apple back on the wax paper and continue with the other's until complete.
  • Refrigerate.
  • By now you should have a well formed and obvious Disney Mickey/Minnie apple.
  • Next, melt the pink chocolate in a double boiler the same way you did the ,melting chocolate.
  • Once smooth, turn off heat and let cool about 5 minutes. (If it's too hot it will melt the milk chocolate off when you dip it. If too cool then it won't dip properly. Be sure to keep an eye on the temp and consistency.)
  • Grab the apples from the fridge and dip the apple in half way.
  • Grab your M&M's or Sixlets and begin to stagger your candies to look like polka dots on Minnie's dress. Place back onto the wax paper and refrigerate right away.
  • Continue with other apples. I did 6 red and 6 pink.
  • Refrigerate overnight or at least until cold and hard and voila! You are done and have yourself a fabulous Apple that normally costs $8 each at Disneyland.
  • Enjoy!
