This has been my husbands favourite for many years which I have adjusted slightly for the slow cooker. The end dish has a sweet and tangy flavour to it and goes great with your favourite mash!

  • Yields: 6 servings


12-16 thin sausages, cut into bite-size chunks

2 brown onions, thinly sliced

2 apples, skin on, diced small

1/3 cup sultanas

500g frozen mixed veggies (optional)

400g tin crushed tomatoes

1/3 cup bbq sauce

1/3 cup tomato sauce

2 tablespoons brown sugar

1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

2 teaspoons Dijon mustard


1Place sausages, onions, apples and sultanas into bowl. At this stage I also added 500g frozen mixed veggies (this is optional).

2In a separate bowl mix all other ingredients together then pour into slow cooker bowl and combine gently.

3Cook on low 5 hours, stirring once or twice. Serve with creamy mash of your choice.
