    3 hrs 15 mins

  • Yields: 22 meatballs (golfball size)

500g lean beef mince

1/2 onion, grated

1 egg

1/2 cup fine breadcrumbs

Cracked black pepper to taste (approx 1tsp)

1/2 onion, grated

1.5 cups hot water

2 tsp beef stock powder

2 tbsp tomato paste

2 tbsp fruit chutney

1 tbsp curry powder

1Add all meatball ingredients to a large bowl and combine well.

2Wash and dry hands.

3Using hands form golf ball sized meatballs from the mix.

4Mine made 22 meatballs.

5(these could be made the night before and stored in fridge if you prefer)

6Gently place meatballs straight into slow cooker.

7Combine all sauce ingredients in a jug and pour gently over meatballs

8Turn slow cooker onto low and cook for approximately 3hrs (some slow cookers may need a little longer, just ensure meatballs are cooked through by testing one if you are not sure)

9Just prior to serving I gently turned each meatball over in the sauce to ensure good coverage.

1DO NOT STIR or move around meatballs during cooking as they could break.

2Gently serve meatballs to ensure you don't break them apart.

3I served mine on bow-tie pasta with a side of green vegetables

4These have quite a curry kick to them (I would suggest medium heat). You could reduce the amount of curry powder in the sauce or serve without sauce for young ones or those who don't like too much heat.

5Cooked in a 5L Russell Hobbs cooker

I used store bought meatballs. Added 1 small grated onion the the sauce cooked on low for 4hr very lovely with a mild curry kick. All family enjoyed the meal !
Budget friendly as I had all thr ingredients in the pantry and freezer.

I’ve made this quite a few times now. Delicious! Grating the onion definitely makes a difference. I often add small new potatoes and a handful of mushrooms.

I finally got around the trying this recipe and it’s so tasty! From the moment it was put on, the family was commenting on how amazing it smelt. I was pressed for time, so I used pre-made Coles Beef and Pork meatballs. Everyone enjoyed this and if definitely make it again and also try with sausages.

This is soooooo tasty. I didn’t have any fruit chutney so just left it out and it was still super tasty. Will definitely be a regular on our menu.

Have made this few times now its very yummy and easy to make.

If you don’t want to use it you could probably just leave it out πŸ™‚
You could substitute it with a spoon of marmalade etc for sweetness
